Main Menu

The main menu of Virtual Families 2- Our Dream House is quite simplistic. You will be asked to enter a name for your saved game. Then you have the option of playing, starting the game over, or managing the games you have already saved. If you are needing to adjust the screen or volume, you will be able to do that through the regular menu in the game.

Adopting Your First Person/ Character Screen

To begin, you will need to pick a character you would like as your own. If you are wanting to raise future generations in the game, you need to pick a character that does want children. If you pick someone who does not, it will make your relationships within the game worse. Each character will come with an occupation and the amount of money they make each day. If you are wanting a bit of a cushion for your character, pick someone with money already saved in the bank. This will help with purchases like a bed.

The character screen can be located in the lower left corner of your screen. It will show you how they are progressing with work and how they are feeling. If their bars get too low, you will need to adjust them in order to maintain happiness. For instance, if the energy level is too low, your character will probably need to rest. If you have more than one character, you can click the arrows near the character’s picture to go to the next person.

Moving Around

In order to move around, you need to tap on your character. Drag your character to the location you need them to be in order to finish the task. Once they are where you want them to be, just release them. You know you have picked them up when you see the white circle underneath them. For example, you want your character to pick up some trash on the ground. Click on the character and drag them to the spot. They will pick up the trash and place it in the nearest garbage can.

Scolding Versus Praising

Scolding and Praising are vital to how you shape your characters. Think of it like you were training a dog. When the character is doing something good, use the green hand in the upper left corner to praise them. This will encourage good behavior with that particular task. In the majority of the game, your character will have free domain. You will just be directing them if you need something done. You will only need to scold a character if he or she is doing something that you find unreasonable. If they are not showering enough, you can scold them so they will “listen” to what you want them to do. Be careful with how much you use the scolding hands as it may severely limit what the character does.

Work Areas

Depending on what your character’s career is, you will have at least three different places in the house for them to work: the kitchen, office or work area. Each character will need to spend time in their respective areas in order to achieve their career goals. Each area comes fully equipped for any career choice. If your character is a chef, your kitchen will have all the necessary supplies. When picking a mate for your character, watch out for similar jobs. Working in the same work space could be cramped for the characters.

The Bank

The bank is where you can track your family’s expenses. As the days pass, the money your character makes with their jobs will increase the bank amount. Be warned though. When you have a baby, your spouse will not devote time to your income with their jobs. You will need to save up money for expenses before your characters have children. You can only earn money once a day. This is a real time game so it is only a daily amount. You will not experience several days in the span of a couple of minutes. If the rate of money isn’t what you want, you can purchase more.

Email

This is an important aspect for your character’s daily routine. This is how they will find a spouse and how they will “communicate” with you. When you see the email icon in the top right corner, drag your character to a computer. They will be able to read the email which you will see pop up on the screen.

Getting Married and Making Babies

The game emphasizes these two concerns very early on. You will receive emails from potential partners almost immediately after the game starts. While the choice is up to you, pick a character who is a right fit for your character. You do not need to pick the first person who proposes. You can be picky. Once they get “married” the game asks if you want to “make babies.” In order to do that, you need to drag one character to the other. This will create the baby. If you want to try to have twins or triplets, you will need to use the praise hand on the couple while they are in that function. It doesn’t always work, but it can.

Creating Your Home

Creating your home takes planning and effort on the part of both you and your character. You will need the money to work with the purchases of furniture and upgrades. Each upgrade can cost thousands of dollars, so take your time. You will be able to locate both the furniture and upgrades in the store option. Some of the furniture and upgrades will be locked for you because of your work level or money level. You will need to choose wisely at that point.
