Escape Rosecliff Island Problems

When I get to the fourth level, in the attic i try to touch the license plate; it comes up all gold and glowy like it has accepted it but the item doesn't disappear from the top of the screen. I have restarted my game and get the same thing. I can't progress past this point and I am frustrated. I think it has been a waste of my money.
