Thank you very much! I know it didn't seem like a big deal to just un-check a box, but in reality it made a solid and honest company look a bit sleazy.

Queen? Sorry, I don't resemble that remark. It's Ducatisti - as in Ducati rider. Ducati is an Italian motorcycle. I'm a technical writer for the motorsports industry, and pretty certain the last word anyone would use to describe me is Queen. Nerd, yes. Queen, no.

Back to the topic at hand, I still haven't heard from Customer Service in response to my question about their new download format. I've only had a few other experiences with GH customer service, which was slow but still responded within 48 hours. 3 working days seems a bit long to me. Did the original poster receive a response to their inquiry?

I used the word in the same manner as it is used in MANY published articles, both online and in print. Here are a few quotes:
"Don't assume that only illegitimate games are the target of malware authors. Legitimate gaming portals, like World of Warcraft, are plum targets..."
"Cheat websites that are a prominent part of the game culture and industry have been debated because of their illegitimate nature... "

These are not using the word to denote lack of legality, but as a term meaning "irregular", or "not complying with accepted standards". The term does mean illegal in many contexts, but not this time. Just as it doesn't mean "a child born out of wedlock" every single time it is used.

Your inability to drop the subject, and your unwavering adherence to your own version of the truth in the face of insurmountable evidence to the contrary is just creepy.

Not that I want to continue this, but gosh that's a very funny malaprop! Caliper? Really? A caliper could be used to measure the CALIBER of a bullet, which is the word I think you were "aiming" at.

TT? Test Track, Tourist Trophy? Totem Tribe? Texas Tech?

Janie, I agree, I love the review options here, much better than the "fishy" selections elsewhere.

Illegitimate has many definitions, yours is one, others include; A child born out of wedlock (obviously not what I'm going for here). Unlawful or illegal (your interpretation). Irregular or not the usual custom, contrary to logic (the meaning I am using).

You ended your quote too soon, and missed this part:
"Personal attacks are prevalent here, and that is never constructive."

I have no idea why you'd want to be argumentative about this, it's silly, and only helps me prove this point.

I am a FunPass Member, and also buy games from another venue, who's forums are easier to navigate, and which I do participate in. I came to the GH forums for the express purpose of voicing my displeasure at their new advertising model, since I received nothing but a canned reply to the email I sent to customer support about it.

I'm hoping the "powers that be" at GH take a closer look at their ad-support setup and decide to at least remove the add-on's they've attached to each download.

Do you have Aero enabled? To check this, right click anywhere on your desktop, choose Personalization, then select one of the non-Aero themes.

Try the game again and see if it is better.

Also, if you have a bunch of background programs or processes running, these can eat up memory and CPU space. You can manually disable most processes by clicking ctrl alt delete, then selecting Task Manager and click the Processes tab. Sort Processes by Memory, and see what memory hogs are running. Don't end explorer.exe or taskmgr.exe, but most others can be quit with no problem.

If you are running Norton or other big name antivirus program, that can be a real brain drain also.

Finally, most games have an option to use standard (not game) cursors, select that option and sometimes the floatyness will disappear.

What is a legitimate game site? Do illegitimate game sites do this? Just wondering. Thanks.

There are many download mirror sites around the internet that offer popular games at cheaper prices, but once you look closely at the TOS, you'll see that by purchasing from them you're selling your email address to their "subsidiaries".

As far as my use of the word "legitimate", I used it in the context correctly. I consider an illegitimate site as one which promises one thing, then delivers another (or something "extra" you're not expecting).

I don't participate in the GH forums because I feel they are poorly designed and implemented, and that typically the users who do participate here don't match the quality of other game site forums. Personal attacks are prevalent here, and that is never constructive.

As a Fun Pass member, when I download a game, I am presented with two "ads", first one is the video ad which starts automatically on the download page. Second is the new "extra" software that is offered and I have to DE-SELECT before continuing my download.

I would understand if GH utilized this format for non-paying members, but it chafes to deal with this when I'm already paying the company a decent chunk of change every month.

So, let's say there are two websites offering the same game for download.

You download a game from Site A and go through the following process:
1. Game page pops up with ad-supported content, including a video that plays automatically.
2. Game loader gives you an option to download extra "scammy" sounding software, which you must OPT OUT of.

You download a game from Site B and go through the following process:
1. Click download on a page with no outside advertising.
2. Game downloads and installs.

Which one looks more legit? Which one would you trust if you had no prior experience with either company? Which one would you be more willing to give your credit card information to?

Gamehouse had better take a good hard look at all these external ads and see if it really is making money for them in the long run.

It's not a money maker if it's a customer-loser.

I'm having the same problem - Funpass member running Win7 65-bit. Sent a message to Support, and received a speedy reply. They recommended running the game in Win98 emulation, tried that, and got an error message from the beginning. Went back and switched it to WinXP which worked for a day or two, but now it's closing out again with no warning.

I've tried windowed mode, same problem.

Tried closing out of absolutely every background program running (including virus scanners, etc), still the same problem.

And you're correct LaLa66, can't run Funpass games without connection to the internet.

I've replied to the original Support message with this information, hopefully they'll get a fix for this soon.

If all of you haven't done it already, be sure to contact Support directly and tell them you're having this problem. They don't read the forums, but they do answer those direct emails.

Same problem here, I'm running Windows 7 64-bit. Everything is fine for awhile, then it just closes out of the game - no error message or anything.

Thanks x2wolverine, I've had a ticket open since the 6th, with no results.

I did find a work-around, by simply not attaching that Ring and leaving it in my inventory, I was able to complete the game.

Hello,

I'm playing using FunPass.

I am in CHAPTER 8-1,000 B. C.-AGE OF THE GODS - Demeter's Realm

After I have attached the "Ring" to Saturn, I get a confirmation popup of Mortimer saying "I've put all the misplaced items in this time zone back to their place and recovered an artifact."

This popup closes, and I am taken back to the main menu for the 1,000 BC - Age of the Gods, then instantly the program closes back to desktop. No error messages, just closes.

I am running Vista 64, and have tried with my Anti-Virus closed and get the same results.

I have screenshots if you would like to see the exact spot this occurs.

Fortunately the game saves at this point, but I've tried multiple times to get past this point, but the game closes out exactly here every time.
