The link below is what Gamehouse suggests if you have this issue. I'm having the same problem so I'll try of these as well: http://support.gamehouse.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/891
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
System Requirements:
Windows 7/Windows Vista/Windows XP
400 MHz Pentium 3 or equivalent
256MB RAM
DirectX 8.0
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
DirectX version:
. If you use Windows, go to Start and select Run. Type dxdiag in that box and press 'Enter'. You'll get a window with the information you need
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
. The free trials do work fine. My only other suggestion is to exit the game when the screen goes black. The custom cursor always seems erratic so you can turn it off in the Options menu of the game to get a regular white mouse pointer that moves at the usual speed.

It'd be annoying to continually exit the game, but the game itself is well worth playing

Cheers.

I had enough of Explorer, could not download properly and changed to Firefox, since then I have no problems with the games. They just work fantastic. It scans it automatically for viruses and I feel more save. By the way my PC is 5 years old!
The only downside of using this Browser is, every time I restart the PC after shutting it down it asks me if I want Explorer as main, I just click on NO and that's it.

Hi Lagoona,

That's not part of my problem though - haven't used IE for anything in years. I use Google Chrome and occasionally Firefox, though I haven't tried downloading these games through Firefox.

It's more likely that the black out problem is an in game thing, but who knows? Thanks for the tip.

Any official's response to this? I'd appreciate it.

bethvollmom wrote: I also had this problem-windows XP- funny thing is...I downloaded a trial of this game from the developers site(today, after experiencing same blackout with the gamehouse version), and if I use that trial, there is no problem.the two games act as 1, where ever I leave off, the other picks up. Still having blackout/freezing when I use the gamehouse version, though.

Thanks very much for this reply Bethvollmom. Your fix is quirky, but think I'll try it. Really would like to play through this game. The game play is similar to that of "The Mystery of the Crystal Portal", which is also available here, but somehow I prefer this one.

Cheers.

Can you describe the system you've installed this game on?

I got a Toshiba Tecra A2 laptop. Pretty aged computer, but the system requirements are matched to what the game specifies.

You switch to a new map area and if the ad kicks in right then, the bottom menu and top links remain, but the environment is simply black - reminds me of what happens when you disable a layer in a game.

Anyone else having this problem?

Help with the fuse sequence...

. The solution is different each time
. You have 6 fuses, so load four and note the indicator lights
. The easiest thing to do, is get all four lights to be orange [right fuse, wrong place]
. Then swap these around until all lights are green

Hints

. Swap the 1st four you put in, with only ONE of the other fuses at a time until all 4 indicators are orange [right fuse, wrong place]

. To achieve 4 green lights, leave at least one fuse in place as you swap around the other 3. Say, try moving Fuse 1, then swap into slot 2, 3 or 4 until you get green, and so on.

Hello,

This is what happens:

. Solve the fuse box puzzle, then my display driver crashes
. Reboot and restart the game. I get a quick look at Christine screaming.
. Then, cut back to the basement where all the fuse indicators are on, but the game still insists that Christine needs to turn the electricity on.

Downloaded this for the "free game of the day", but didn't play it immediately...

Has this happened to anyone else?

Downloaded Mystery of the Crystal Portal both times that it was the day's free game. The first time, it keep closing when I tried to place an item in the last scene. The second time (earlier this week) it shutdown when I tried to place an item when you explore the study once more.

Today's offering, Margrave Manor 2: The Lost Ship, looks fine until you enter the HO part - the graphics become a series of fine lines; it also causes the computer to hang up.

I'm running Windows XP, SP2 on a Toshiba laptop and usually have no problems running games.
