Hi Bill,

you are most welcome! And thank you for giving me another idea for a short trip - I just look up where Kevelear is and it really seems worth a trip.

I am amazed about your knowledge, I was sure you knew the Hildebrandt, for during our visit I got the impression, that it is one organ an expert has to know about and the Naumburger have a lot pride for their masterpiece. It is well deserved. St. Wenzel does have extraordinary accoustics.

The Speyer organ I didn't think so, for it being so new. I just read a bit about it and Seifert in the internet and maybe I have another picture for you in three weeks. We are going to Muenster for a weekend and there at St. Mauritz seems to be another Seifert-organ, when there is time, I will try to visit it. I also read something about the ASLSP - John-Cage-Organ-Project in Halberstadt, which is just around the corner. Truly interesting!

Leipzig isn't that far from here and I have visited the city a few years ago on our way to Dresden. They do have quite an history of music, as has the nearby town Halle. So it is probably no surprise that the whole region is full of sites to go, see and listen. My part of Germany on the other hand isn't very religious, nor has it a big musical history, so we have to go around to see these masterpieces.

Whenever I find another one, I will post a picture for you!

Best wishes

Hi Lagoona,

that tower really looks nice. I do like old and new buildings equal, but many new buildings around here a bit of a bore. It is nice to know, that something old (the bells) kept its usefulness by being build into the knew church tower. Often enough something is discarded just because it is old. The Swan Bells of St. Martin in Perth will be something I am going to visit, while on our party trip Maybe I once get the chance to visit it for real, for going down under is on of our dreams.

I miss the other ladies as well, but life is always a story of comings and goings and this is a small world we are living in, so we quite probably see each other twice

Best wishes from the other side of the globe

Hi Mr. Bill,

during our vacation we were blessed to visit the cathedral of Speyer (once again), which got a new organ. We visited it the day before it got consecrated, so we were lucky to be able to listen organist the practicing for the the next day. Here is a picture of the organ for you:

Even so it was really good it wasn't nothing compared to the organ we were able to listen to two days ago. We went to Naumburg to an exhibition of medieval art and visited almost by accident the townchurch of St. Wenzel, too. There we heard the organist practicing on an original Hildebrandt organ. You probably already know that organ, don't you? It was like feeling the music and being within the music itself. I never experienced this before. It was a perfect feeling In case you don't know it already here is a picture of that masterpiece of an organ:

Good morning everyone,

here the sun slowly comes out and it promises to become a very beautiful autumn day.

I am sorry I missed the party, but the last weeks were full of work and than vacation started and we were off to visit new and old places and even up the mountains to the top of Europe. Lagoona - I bring you some extra greetings from Swiss! It is such a lovely country, we have been there twice now and will certainly go there again!

Today there will be some shopping, for we got our two little cats two days ago and they are keeping us on out toes (so to speak) and we have to buy some things we forgot earlier. It is such fun watching them play.

Best whishes

Great hugs back to you Lagoona! This drop only exists in Germany, it is from a small vineyard, we try to spend some holiday at every year! But I have tasted the deliciuos vines of Down Under, too, and liked them very much - so maybe we could bring a bottle each?

Hi Ydoi, I am glad your daughter enjoyed her trip.

There is - of course - a big conspiracy theory around this king. He build all this fairytale castles. Neuschwanstein, which you daughter visited

and castle Linderhof (sadly it was under construction, when we visited it). a small castle in the mountains.

There is a third one, too but we didn't visited it. The only castle that he really finished was castle Linderhof, the other two weren't finished while he lived. Neuschwanstein still has some empty rooms. Nevertheless he planed 2 or 3 more castles.

And if you ask a Bavarian you get either the answer that he was a madman or that he was a victim of the bad politicians. I think it is a mixture of both. In my opinion he was gay and at that times you were thought sick, when you were gay, so you weren't allowed to tell and live it. And he was very sensitive, with that he tried to compensate his lack of love from his family or a partner with this castles. And while they are very pretty they were very expensive, too and that's when the politicians thought, that they had to stop them. So some say he was killed in that lake others say he killed himself, we will probably never know what really happened there.

This is Hohenschwangau, it is the castle were he grew up and from were he watched the construction of Neuschwanstein:

Ah the beer! The Bavarians have some of the best beers in Germany There are over 1.300 brewerys in Germany, so there is a lot to taste

Ideal weather for lounging and that is what I will be doing the rest of the evening, for they already forecasted some bad thunderstormns and a temperature drop back to the seventies.

You have to grab a peacock, when the symbol of feathers appears over his head, and then bring him to the place where you sheer the sheep. The machine takes of the feathers, bt it won't function at night only at day!

Hey ydoi, I know that feeling about summer, but they promised us on the weather forecast, that summer will be back from Monday on, so hopefully your daughter will have some nice days, too! At the moment it is a strange mix of thunderstorms and sun.

I heard that about smokers, too, but mainly with spices, that is to say, that smokers use more spices than non-smokers. But I do not know if it is really true. My mom smokes but her food tastes normal.

On Tue Jun 21 09:25:19 PDT 2011, Elvenarcher said:

Ah, I hope she has fine weather! At the moment it tends to be quite changeable. We call it "sheeps cold" around here - kind of typical Western European cold days in June, interestingly mostly it is felt in Germany.

I am sorry I do not live in that area. I am living in Northern Germany and she will be visiting Southern Germany. It is at least 7 hours by car from where I live, though she picked some very beautiful places. We visited Neuschwanenstein and its "older sister" castle Hohenschwangau some 10 years ago. The Bavarian King that built Neuschwanenstein is said to have been crazy. He built 4 or 5 castles - all for himself alone (he had no wife and children), the country Bavaria was almost bankrupt at the end of his regency. But the castles are quite beautiful ans a must for anyone who visits Germany.

Good luck with your strawberrys! We had a warm May, so we had some but they were very small - not enough rain and the plants were small when I bought and planted them. I hope to have more next year
