the Kindle FIRE promo

GH has offered a prize of a Kindle FIre to one lucky GH member. Myself I am not interested as I have a Kindle keypad reader and my wife has the Fire. I do have observations about the promo though. GH says in one part of the promo that using fun pass credit is needed as an eligibility requirement. Then in the next segment GH says no purchase is necessary. When one then refers to the contest rules it is pointed out that a postcard sent by snailmail to GH is sufficient. Then in the contest rules it is stated Winners will be notified......................
It should read winner as there is only one prize. Why the need for snailmail? Can't GH set up an email response for customers who elect to not buy a game first? Why only one prize? All in all, seems a bit chintzy to me how this promo was set up.I'm not looking a gifthorse in the mouth and I'm sure the winner of the Fire will be pleased. I just have reservations about how the contest is designed.

I was planning to add that the Fire is a terrific toy and that anyone who likes to read and do other things with electronics will thoroughly enjoy having one, but GH's annoying 1000 character limit reared its ugly head again.end of rant

[size=12]I have been reading a lot of the Lounge "chit-chat" lately and decided to put in my "2-cents" on this particular post. If you would read the promo intro and go to the rules & regulations, this prize is limited to FunTicket members only -- not FunPass!! Being a FunPass member I sure would like to see a Promo like this or something equivalent since I'm paying approximately 3 times what FunTicket members do -- I realize it is my choice to pay monthly, Lagoona, before you bother to once again explain the annual savings amount.

I am going to get a kindle. Right now I've got the pc app. I don't know whether to get a regular touch screen or go with the Fire. I've heard good and not so good about Fire. If all I want to do is read books, maybe a regular Kindle.

Hi everyone,

To clarify eligibility for the GameHouse "Win a Kindle Fire" promotion it is important to read the complete Terms & Conditions, which include:

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. A PURCHASE WILL NOT INCREASE AN ENTRANT’S CHANCES OF WINNING A PRIZE.

No purchase necessary. There are two ways to enter:
1. Purchase any Premium Edition or Platinum Edition game on GameHouse.com with 2 FunTickets using the FunTicket subscription product. Only one entry will be valid for each individual. Further information about FunTicket can be obtained via the landing page at http://www.gamehouse.com/memberships/funticket. Customers may choose to cancel their FunTicket subscription at any time.

2. Free entry: Mail in a submission on a postcard to: Jeff Washatka, “GAMEHOUSE – 2 FUNTICKETS SWEEPSTAKES 2012”, c/o RealNetworks Inc., PO Box 91123, Seattle, WA. 98111-9223. All entries must be submitted prior to Midnight, 1/26/2012. Only one entry will be valid for each individual that enters.

Even though the promotion is focused on FunTicket, offering an automatic entry as noted in the first entry method outlined above, anyone who meets the general eligibility requirements can enter whether they are a GamePass or FunPass member...or if they have no subscribing membership.

Hope that helps clarify things -- good luck!

Bill

Yusef,
If all you want is a reader then do not spend the extra $$ for the FIre. My wife has the Fire and I have the keypad reader. The Fire is a computer and has lots of applications. It costs $200. The Touch costs $99 and the Keypad costs $139. The Fire needs lots more battery recharging than the other 2. My Kindle lasts 2 months on a single charge. For my money, the keypad is the way to go. It's user friendly to the max.

Hi Poppa, By keypad your're not talking about the buttons, are you? I planned to get the one that you could "turn the pages" on the screen. Are we talking about the same thing? Frankly, I'm confused when I look at Amazon with the different versions and 3G and WiFi to boot.

By keypad I do mean the typewriter like buttons on the Kindle. For me this is more user friendly than the Touch. The keypad version also has a longer battery charge. I can get 2 months before a charge is needed. As far as the wifi and all that other stuff, you need not get into that unless you do lots of international travel and plan on using the reader simultaneously. A chosen book downloads in less than a minute after a purchase and there are lots of free books too. Whichever one you get, visit your local library and inform it that you have a reader. Then you can also do an online registry of the reader and obtain borrowing rights from the library. All in all, you will really enjoy having the Kindle. Good luck

Hi yusef and Poppa,
I'm writing about the Kindles. The only way you can borrow books, no matter which one you have or get, is if you are a "prime" member. Then you can "borrow" 1 (one) book per month. As well as download movies, etc. You can easily turn pages on all of the Kindles. If the only thing you want to do is to read books, then by all means stick with the basic Kindle. For other options, weigh what you prefer and go for it. You won't be disappointed. Everything is VERY reasonably priced, once you have the Kindle of your choice. I would suggest you get a non glare, smudge proof screen cover, at least 1 (one) of the styluses for touching the screen. And a Kindle cover that is durable and, that will hold your Kindle in various positions for you.

Good luck & enjoy,

njamba

Thanks for the additional input, njamba. A kindle is definitely on my list for next time I go to the U.S. I know they all turn pages lol. I meant there is one that you can pass your hand on the screen and a page will turn, like with a real book. I guess Nook has had that feature for a while but it's new for kindle. That's what I meant about turning the page. The kindle app on my laptop works really well but I want a more book-like thing.

Did you see I put your name in the "All Fired Up" thread? With a butterfly. Hope you like butterflies.

Hi yusef,
You're welcome. I hope the extra information was helpful. I'm sorry if I misunderstood. That is so easy to do when I'm just reading a post. I hope you get to the U.S.A. soon so you can get one.

I didn't see that you put my name in "the All fired Up" thread. I haven't posted much,so I don't know how to get around very well. I like just about anything in nature, so Butterflies are fine.

Happy Gaming,

njamba

Hi Yusef, I'm confused, the kindle is available in other countries. I have a Kindle which I bought from Amazon UK. Just the basic one as all I wanted was to read books on it. Do you live in a country which doesn't yet have it's own kindle version?

Not yet, Minxski, although since recently, we can order from Amazon US.
