that's good news for you Lynne and it should make your holiday that much more enjoyable.
In recent weeks not much has been mentioned about the spill. Perhaps you could provide and update on how things look in the Gulf.

Great news, lynne! I hope more claims are granted for this big ol' mess that doesn't seem to be clearing up at all... and poppa's right, most have no idea what the status is of the whole shebang right now unless you're living with the after effects. Have a wonderful, safe, and happy trip!

thanks everyone! as for the spill here in florida where i am things look good and the snowbirds are coming in droves. spring break looks to be huge the biggest in years. we were very lucky that it did not do much damage here but just the words oil spill hurt tourism tremendously this summer. lots of businesses shut down and will not reopen ever. things are slowly trickling back to normal for the fishing industry but it is still hurting. people shudder at the words gulf seafood. i can attest to the fact it is clean and still yummy!

Posted on Fri Dec 03 01:15:56 PST 2010

Hi 'lynne8179' -- Glad that Christmas came early for you! And it's good to know that the beaches are clean and the seafood is clean and yummy.

I'll make my first visit to the Florida panhandle at the end of this month to attend a friend's wedding along The Beaches of South Walton, specifically Seaside/Seagrove Beach. We're renting a large vacation home for our group and we're looking forward to the trip. Hope you enjoy your trip to the Philadelphia area!

Cheers,
Bill

It's a whopping 21 degrees here and I've got 1/2 a foot of snow. My older brother who lives about 40 miles from me just got dumped over a foot of snow.

Hi Lynne, I am happy for you too! That sounds as if there is some justice at last and that you can have a real nice X-mas. Though everyone could have done without the whole mess in the first place.

Hi Lynne, I am glad I am back, too For now I am on holidays, visiting family getting things done, that I kind of put off the last weeks.

Here it is snowing all day now and we may have almost as much snow as Sportygal has - but it is still quite harmless - though people are complaining a lot. But aren't they always complaining about the weather? When the sun shines, it is to hot, when it rains, it is to wet and when it snows, it is to cold.
It seems we are getting those kind of winters I remembering from being a child. I love snow, but it got rare here the last years. Last winter was unusually heavy with snow - nobody was prepared for it. This winter starts earlier - and because I love snow - I am hoping it stays till Spring Temperature is somewhere in the twenties, I think.

You'll probably have a lot snow and cold in Philadelphia?!

And don't feel so bad here in "sunny" CA it's 24* (burrrrr)! but no snow just rain. Can I add yeah! for the Gulf Coast. We lived in Biloxi MS for 6 yrs and enjoyed it. I'll be praying for your safe travel and wish you a Merry Christmas. {{hugs}}

Granted it's been many moons ago since I've been to Florida but I've never heard of it getting this low in temps. I bet they are freaking.

As for a coat... believe it or not I rarely have a coat on the in winter. I do a thick sweater or a long sleeve sweat shirt and I'm good to go as I'm not a coat person till it gets down to single digits or below zero then I'll break out a coat as I'm pretty warm blooded, which I find odd since I have arthritis but not quite like I was "back in the day" use to wear shorts and T-shirt and could walk bare foot in snow and wouldn't phase me a bit.

More tid bits here on the coat... I never wear a coat while in the car driving as that has to come off as I can feel claustrophobia setting (coat + seat belt = NOT) in and the driver's side window always has to be down a little ways even if it is snowing out. Can't stand the window completely up whether I'm smoking a cigarette or not that window has to be down.

The only thing that really bothers me about snow is driving in it and the most snow I can ever recall getting is winter of 1978 a whopping 28 inches of snow and they closed the schools for a whole week here where I live.

Brr, no or seldom a coat? How amazing! Don't you get a common cold or so? I am freezing quite fast and prefer warm temperatures to cold temperatures anytime. This year we bought nice and long allweather jackets (the brand with the paw of a canine) and these jackets are keeping us perfectly warm. Just great when you love snow and don't like cold temperatures

The weather forecast predicts some more snow for today It seems that there will be some really bad weather in parts of Germany. Though I guess we won't see much of it around here. But close to us there is a small mountain range and the average snow height at the moment is around 40 inches. The trees look just fantastic

In the early 80s we had a lot snow and schools were closed for almost a week, too. Last winter and this winter, there were some schools closed, too, but just for a few days. Mainly those schools which lay in rural parts. Alas work won't close because of the weather. If it gets to bad, than I could probably take some overtime and stay at home.

! yuck!

Yep! It's true - I seldom wear a coat. I do notice that the temps does seem to flare up my arthritis more than when it's warmer but I find that if I bundle up I get very over heated so the thick sweater or long sleeve sweat shirt and I'm good to go.

The only other thing I don't like about winter here is when it gets icy. We had our Christmas party for work back in 2008 and what is normally a 15 minute drive for me from my house to where we hold our Christmas party well ended up taking me 45 mins because the roads where THAT ICY and found a few people off the road to get back home as the roads weren't icy going to otherwise I wouldn't of went. As for being icy this is the worst I can recall living here where I do.

Oh and this time of year I normally keep the car well supplied with blankets and such just in case I was to get stranded. I couldn't be out in this for HOURS so to speak but going from point A to point B um nope no coat here.

I also rarely get sick another to my surprise having arthritis.

Well it's seen better days (wiping the drool off the floor so I don't have another nasty accident) but the glue gun did a pretty good job of piecing it back together. How's the dilly dallying going having a good time since the hippos are all fed and happy I guess you can go and dilly dally some more. Have fun ! He does look like a good one to dilly dally with ! Although I would rather dilly dally with the one in the red cape ( picks tongue up off the floor)Huggies and keep on dilly dallying !
