another reason why the pond is such a chicken@#&* company

I am not a frequent PC game buyer and when I do make a purchase the game will be a HOG since this is my genre of preference. I have been playing these games for about 6 years and I own about 60 of them. All of my buys have been from BFG ( the pond ) since this company generally has the best games and good pricing. BFG has a promo that states if any gamer buys 6 games in a month, then the gamer will receive a free game credit.
In December I did buy 6 games and got an email from the pond saying I'd get a credit code early in January. I had not received the code as of 1/8/12 so I sent off an email to BFG asking why.

A rep from BFG replied saying that I was not eligible for the credit since I am not a member of its gameclub. In the club, members must buy at least one game per month. First of all I don't want any company in my wallet on a routine basis for any reason and furthermore my purchasing style would often compel me to get a game that I otherwise wouldn't want. I sent a response to BFG asking why it would tell me I was getting a freebie and then reneging on the deal. I tried to appeal with them thru common sense that anyone buying 6 games in a month
should get the free game and that BFG need not treat some of its clients as second class citizens.

BFG issued a halfhearted reply that basically said " hey bud, it's our ball and our yard so go pound sand". I know that GH has a deal with the funpass at $20 monthly. I would not take part for the reasons stated earlier and this is in no way a knock at GH. I certainly can afford the monthly charge but I simply choose to refrain. BFG used to be a good place to be for many reasons but it got too big and very restrictive. This is why so many people have left the pond. I for one have spent my last $$ at that chicken@$*^ company.
End of rant

I was a member at BFG for a few years, and I didn't mind their special offers that are Exclusive to the Game Club Members only! Their $2.99 Daily Deal and their Punch Card Rewards, which is what you are talking about. Buy six games in a month get one free. They even include your freebie games in the count!

The reason I left BFG is because of the lack of diversity in their games offered, which is like 97% hidden object games and almost exclusively Dark,Dreary,Occult themes at that! Plus their Game Manager which they FORCE on you!

I am a FunTicket subscriber/member here because I want to be able to get my games for $6.99,plus a monthly freebie, so I do not have any objection to being a member at a game site, and if the site wants to give special 'exclusives' to the members ONLY, IMHO that is their right, and just added frosting on the cake for those who choose to be members.

I had a fun pass subscription until this month. I like the games here better than the ones over there.
I get tired of all the dark and erie games.

You are wise indeed Poppa to not entrust BFG with your CC info. No secret that I learned that the hard way.

Hi granny, Funpasss is GH's program. It's great. Play all the games you want with limited (Platinum games) restrictions.

I have memberships in both groups (GH & BF), and I currently have over 300 games installed on my computer. 80% are from GH, and that's due to several factors: The pricing, the variety, and the "game manager" concept. That said, however, I have had good experiences with both company's products, as well as the customer service department on both. Different companies have different ways of doing similar functions. The customer should take the time to read the terms and conditions of the specific company for the product they are purchasing. I do believe that if you are dissatisfied with the response of the customer service represenative with whom you spoke, you should request (and be allowed) to speak to supervisors or management, as most companies are more concerned with retaining a regular customer than losing a few dollars on a product. Criticism of a company is probably most productive when addressed to the company involved, not to a competitor.

To Mainiac,
The other site mentioned has become so restrictive over the past couple of yrs that it would be next to impossible to issue a complaint withing the forum so as to make its membership aware of the company shortcomings. The thread would be deleted or at least locked. That's the main reason why I never go back into the forums there. At least at GH, some latitude is offered. I appreciate your suggestion to seek assistance from a supervisor there and I will do so as I hadn't thought of that approach. My primary gripe now is that the pond sent me an email promising a credit. The email said nothing about the need to be an active club member. Then when I asked where the credit was, BFG then sang a different tune. Rather cheap, don't you agree?

Like Maineiac, I've 100s of games, some from GH, some from others like Big Fish Games (BFG).

GameHouse remains best IMV for its FunPass game rental / play all you like plan.
However, FunPass value-added has dropped significantly as result of Platinum games (extended versions, no matter called Platinum, Premium, or Collector's).

That GH now has Platinum games is a direct consequence of Big Fish Games, I believe. In fact, players can "thank" BFG for this Collectors/Platinum scheme, which is really about a hike in prices. BFG started the Collector's editions gimmick & at that time BFG's founder, Paul Thelan, promised that CEs would ocur only rarely & that CEs would only be for superior-quality games.

BFG's promise was a flat-out lie.

CEs are now the norm for new releases at BFG, almost daily, & sadly, as players seem happy to either pay $14.00 per casual game or else wait months for standard version, developers realized that they can make more cash via the CE/Platinum scheme; thus, CEs (Platinums) were forced onto GH IMV.

This is why I was so disturbed to see a Platinum (CE) games scheme arrive here at GH.

Platinum/CE games are nothing special anymore. In fact, most extended version games nowadays are simply what a couple years ago would have been considered good (maybe once in a while excellent) standard games sold at a higher than in the past price.

I'd have preferred an overall hike in price to something like $8.99 for all games not on sale rather than the CE rubbish, but that's me.

So, CEs & GH's own Platinum editions are now here because of BFG !

Both GH & BFG IMV have good customer service; BFG's is better, though, because with BFG you can email your concern / problem & BFG can & will take care of it via email.
At GH, not so.
For e.g., last week I took the time to email GH a detailed enquiry about a current problem I'm having only to receive a reply back from GH that I MUST use either Live Chat or telephone.
My enquiry could easily have been dealt with by email, and that would have been by far the most effective/efficient method for me.

So, the game distributors all have their ups & downs, as Maineiac notes, but for FunPass especially, GH is still tops.

Good observations, Janie. Personally, I think you give BFG too much credit as leaders in the industry. As for customer service, that's your experience, and that is WHILE you are a customer. I will be interested to know if your opinion is the same when you decide to cancel there. My cancel experience here was with RA, no problem, and I would expect no problems from GH either because it's essentially the same co IMO. My cancel experience at BF was a nightmare, as everyone already knows (only not the details which is where the nightmare lies).

Not recently, but I have done customer service with GH via email. I changed from a month to month to annual Funpass by email. Don't remember if there was anything else, but it was email no problem.

Well, I guess we all have our own expectations and experiences. Would that they could all be good. And Maineiac is certainly right. If you have an issue with a company, go to THAT company, not to someone else's.

Now this has got too long, so I suppose I'll have to save the draft and edit it.

What is IMV?

Just an update in my ongoing battle with the chicken#&@^ company heretofore mentioned. None of the geniuses at BFGare able to or willing to grasp one fact. That is it sent me an email stating I would receive a free game credit. There was no mention in that email that game club membership was required. I have repeatedly attempted to drive that point home and all the responses I get from the pond is repetition about the game club.
All I want them to do is honor the email is sent me. We are talking about a lousy $7 game and I have been a loyal purchaser from the chicken#($& company. Heck, I am yet to buy my first game from GH!! The pond is full of scum and the water is polluted.

Resolution....................I WON !!!
got an email today from a supervisor at the pond who agreed with me that BFG was wrong in denying the credit
since the company had promised it to me. Their rule about active club membership still makes no sense to me.
I informed the pond that not only me but 4 friends who are pc gamers would leave BFG ( this is a fact ) due to their cheapskate attitude. I am sure this is what prompted them to relent and issue the credit. A victory for the little guy against the multimillion dollar corporation. Maybe there is hope for the planet yet

can't help you on that one yusef. The thing I can't figure out about global warming is that although modern humans have certainly contributed to the recent upward trend of the planet overheating, natural history teaches us that this phenomenom is not unique in our planetary evolution. The last ice age occured about 20000 yrs. ago and there were very few people on the earth and when the ice age ended it's not because our ancestors were burning fossil fuels or emiting too much carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Earth's tilt on its axix changes over time and this results in warming or cooling. I figure we are in a warming cycle at present. What people need to accomplish is the means to significantly slow down our dependence on fossil fuel.

I was making a joke. However, since you come back with an excellent point, I'll offer a possibility (and hope not to start WW3 at the GH forum). Humans aggravate natural phenomena. So do other animals. One example is cow flatulence. We could offset cow damage by a) not consuming so much beef and dairy, and b) using cow pies for fuel. Seriously. And that's about the extent of my knowledge on global warming except that it's hotter than the dickens in the summer where I live. Hope you're having a grand Sunday.

cow farts eh!! funny one yusef. I wonder how many cars could be fueled if we could find a way to channel the world's farts. They are mostly methane gas.

I'm just going to move this up a bit for the weekenders who come over to advertise for chicken@#&*, single/low post posters who can't run GH games but chicken@#&* games run just fine and lo and behold they all have the same problem--like chicken@#&* computers that aren't equipped to run casual games or chicken@#&* internet, likely dialup. The chicken@#&* complaints are getting just too predictable.

Of course, not everyone who has a problem is doing chicken@#&*'s dirty work for them (& probably for free), but when the deluge starts and posts are interspersed with chicken@#&*, ya just gotta wonder. Giving the benefit of the doubt can only last so long.

Legitimate posters, I don't mean you.

And now, where were we? Oh yes, cows destroying the planet.

Many good Gamehouse Games can be bought in the Retail environment in Jewel Case form for $9.99 per title. There was a Super Collapse Anniversary edition where it had Collapse 4 and some other collapse games.

Encore Software often acts as a distributor for many casual games in the store.

Bill, I don't know if your familiar with Gamehouse's retail distribution platforms, but many of Gamehouse's Games I've bought in the store have been distributed by Encore.

Some of the first games that we bought were gamehouse games that we bought in a computer store.
Since we have fun pass I haven't checked elsewhere.

At one time there wasn't fun pass or other sites that offered games for $6.99.
The only monthly rate was the one offered by real arcade. Way back in 2003. Then along came jumbo games then it changed to what it is today.
It is hard to imagine that a lot of places did not offer windowx xp. the only ones who did were a very few.
We have the fun pass now. It is the other site that doesn't offer what we want.
