It's been a few months since I last posted. Looks like there is some new blood around here. To all my friends at GH, all has been well for me and mine and I hope you can all say the same. Now to get to the topic at hand.
For me, the hardest game is Magician's Handbook: Blacklore. It is a HOG. Most of the items to be found are small and well concealed. There are some keys that are hidden and finding enough of them grants the player hints. The keys are also really hard to find. The puzzles to be completed at the end of each chapter are brutal for the most part. This is a game that I can only take in small doses. ( I like retaining my sanity !!! ) I don't know if Blacklore is available at GH but if anyone wants to tackle a real nutcracker, this is it.

Please let us in on what game you find to be the most consternating.

Good question, poppa. I'll have to think about this one. I am usually, I mean always, a quitter when it comes to figgering out hard HOGs. As far as a part of a game, original Luxor level 5-5 had to be it. But I was so determined to beat it that I did, and then I kept playing over and over, and I beat it almost anytime now, just from all the practice I've had.

P.S. Minxski is still there.

I thought of another which is one of my alltime favorite games and one that is for some reason unknown to me
not too popular. The game is Hexalot. It has been around for a few years. There are 36 segments to the game, the object being getting some men from a starting point to castles in each segment. The game starts quite easily and just gets tougher and tougher as the player makes progress ( or the lack thereof ) As in any game, there are obstacles to overcome. In Hexalot, the obstacle is figuring out which direction the men must travel. In the game randomly provided crystals must be installed in the grids so that the men can get from point A to B and so forth. This game requires the utmost in concentration. There is tremendous replay value since the giving of the crystals always changes. I don't know if Hexalot is available at GH but it is certainly available. The game is unique and the only other game I can think of that is remotely similar is Gemsweeper.

continued....

Give this outstanding game a shot because it will be one of the most satisfying accomplishments should you ever complete it. Please don't blame me though when your frustration level and blood pressure rises.

I remember trying to play Hexalot. I didn't get very far, not far at all. I haven't tried the hog you mentioned, but I won't even try if it's a particularly hard one. I have not yet got through one of those guess as you go along hogs. You know, those where you have to go from place to place, back to a previous site and then get stuck forever. I'm still thinking of the hardest game I've played, but considering I give up, maybe I won't be able to come up with a title.

It will surely never be available here, but the recently released MCF Escape from Ravenhearst goes into the top 10 of difficult games. Glad there was a walkthru and it was needed a lot. Terrific IHOG/adventure and a worthy addition to the PC gaming scene

The Rhem series. For me, hands down, best games ever developed.

My hardest PC Game was Blue Madonna A Carol Reed Mystery.

It was not the Puzzles, in finding the objects, which got to me. It was how the game was build up, you couldn't turn around in a room, to get out of that specific location, you had to find a little possible gap to get out.

Not even the help button told you how to leave the room, it only said what I already knew about the objects!
