Hey everyone! This is my first post in the GH forums. I was a member of RealArcade for many years before the merge. I hope to post more here in the future....

(PS: I LOVE reading tidbits about ya'll ..... fascinating and fun!)

1. I have a BS degree in electronic engineering and never did anything with it (sound familiar?)
2. I owned 3 retail stores for 20 years until the economy blew a gasket.
3. Five books published in the 80's (sci-fi), which are out of print now. Started working on another book in collaboration with my hubby.
4. I'm an old fart who's still a Toys-R-Us kid. Mentally young, that is.
5. I'm a total dork.
6. My house is filled with movie props and looks like a museum.
7. For an early Valentine's present, hubby made me the Tom Riddle diary with a bloody Basilisk tooth sticking out of it ... from Harry Potter: Chamber of Secrets movie. Awww, how sweet!
8. I'm a total dork (just in case you didn't believe me the first time)

Hello and welcome Darkchylde you don't sound like a dork to me in fact I love Harry Potter I have all the movies and I am thinking of having my nephew do a muriel above my fireplace of Hogwarts. I to am a toy-r-us person in the same sense as you. Did'nt have a retail store but we do have a tanning salon. So by no means do you sound like a dork to me. Welcome !

This is a nice way for us to get to know a bit about each other, Here goes:
1. I, like others, do not work at what I majored in college. I have a masters degree in History but instead own an insurance agency...I'm now blissfully semi-retired.
2. Married ( 40 yrs. ) have 2 grown kids and the best grandson ever!!
3. I hate winter...living in the northeast it keeps me away from my 2 pleasures. My boat and my garden.
4. I love to travel, have seen most of the USA and cruises are a great way to be on vacation.
5. I love to cook and Szechuan and Hunan are my specialties.
6. Can't get enough good HOGs. RTR is still the best and Echoes of the Past is a close second.

Hey there, candylv... you're a precious one, ya are... I'm saddled with chronic panic disorder and doomsday depression myself, so I know well from where you speak. (And just for Poppa, we will NOT start a thread on this! Lol!) And I, like you, have learned that there's magic in reaching out, and there are truly kind people out there who want to take your hand. So thanks for taking that chance, because others here have benefited by meeting you. It works both ways, my friend.

bless ya heart there moom, my hubby has chronic pain so I kind of know what you go through, I had to laugh what cha said to poppa, then I remembered what he said about sickness threads. lol. No, we will not compare illnesses, I mentioned the depression to let you guys know in the little time I've known you, you all were the first to make me laugh out loud. My husband said he enjoyed that sound again. I have friends, but I tell you they all just say "it's time to get over it". ummmm no. You might get over losing your house or car, things that has happened to them but not this. So anyway, I can tell you guys stuff and get the right amount "I feel for you" balanced with a lot of silliness and laughter. You guys are awesome!

Thanks for the welcome! I had more to share, but since we're limited to so many characters, I had to delete stuff.

It's been a very mild winter here in the Pacific Northwest. I work in an automotive shop, so I'm glad the weather isn't as bad as it was last year. Funny about chronic pain (from some of you). I'm physically disabled and live with chronic pain. The "kids" in the shop are less than half my age, but I can do better and more than they do. I did smash a finger 2 days ago pulling a tire off a Jeep Cherokee. It's still black and swollen, and I'll be losing the nail any time now. EEWWW! Since it's that special middle finger, it sticks out straight and no one can complain I'm flipping them off! HAHA.

Hello everyone! Bill and I were reading your posts on this thread and we enjoyed learning all these little tidbits about or community. I thought it would only be fair to chime in with a few little known facts about myself that might interest you all.

1. I am bilingual (Spanish - of Cuban Ancestry). I was raised in a bilingual household and although English is my "primary" language I can't remember a time when I didn't speak both.

2. I am a terrible cook. I can barely boil water. I am lucky to have a girlfriend that thoroughly enjoys cooking for us. Though when it's "my turn" to cook we usually end up eating out. Luckily here in Seattle there is a broad selection of excellent food.

3. I have a 1 year old French Bulldog named Rad that is the most loyal and adorable pet anyone could ever wish for.

4. I have worked for GameHouse/Real Arcade for the better part of the last decade. I got my first job here in 2002/03 as a regular old customer service agent and have worked in Tech support, as a support manager and now as a community manager for this company. They can't seem to get rid of me!

5. I have traveled throughout the United States in my life but have never left it's borders. I have lived in Miami, FL; Chicopee, MA; Cincinnati, OH (actually it was technically Bellevue, KY); South Bronx, NY (where I was born); and Seattle WA. When I moved to Seattle from Miami I actually drove cross country and visited much of the US.

And that's a little about me. Thanks to all for sharing a little about themselves.

Posted on Mon Feb 08 14:22:34 PST 2010

This is a great topic, everybody! I told Nick that I would follow his lead, so here goes:

1. I was born and raised in the Cleveland, Ohio area; graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a B.S. in Biology, a degree I have never "used" (originally wanted to go to med school).

2. Right out of college I began working for Delta Air Lines in their Cincinnati Reservations department and that job led to a lengthy career in the travel industry, where I have managed Reservations/Customer Service departments at cruise lines, wholesale travel agencies and tour operators.

4. Have lived in Cincinnati, New Orleans, Chicago and for the past eight years Seattle. Began working at GameHouse last October and I like it a lot!

5. I am a foodie! I enjoy food and love to pair it with wine or beer, sharing the experience with friends.

6. I love most types of music but my favorite is classical organ. I've made many "pilgrimages" to hear my favorite organs and musicians around the world.

7. I also love commercial aviation and I can identify most any aircraft upon sight and even some jet engines by their sound. (Does that make me a nerd?)

That's it for now -- I'll get back to work. Cheers!

Bill

Wow! A big round of applause for two of our favorite mods! Thanks for joining in and letting us "know" you a little better! Gee, seems like lots of us didn't end up doing (work-wise) what we were actually trained to do, or started out thinking we'd do. A good message for our college students out there to follow your heart! Every class you take, and every experience you have will help you in some way, but do what it is you feel a passion for. And write that novel! Paint that painting! Ride that horse and get on that boat! And it's never "too late."
But thanks, guys! Glad that you're both onboard the GH train.

Well, thanks so much there Nick and Bill for the tidbits of your lives. Now you seem more like real people then just rules written on a computer. Bill, I too am an ohioan. I was born and raised in Portsmouth Ohio and lived there untill just 14 yrs ago when I moved to GA. I have been all over Cleveland as it's just 100 miles from Portsmouth. As a teenager my friends and I were stomping all over, Cleveland, Cinncinnati, Columbus and Dayton. I sure miss my home state {sigh} but if you're from there you know jobs are far and few in Ohio.

Just a few little morsels.

I served 4 years in the US Navy, and traveled around the world. Some of the places I visited are, Cuba (Gitmo), Jamaica, Hong Kong, Tia land, Africa, Singapore, Guam, Sri Lanka, Philippines, and all through out the Middle East. I was there when Jimmy Carter tried to rescue the hostages over there, and what a mess that was.

I went to school to become a professional baker, but when the chain stores started their bakeries I went back into construction. I still bake for special occasions.

My wife and I were in the ministry (non denominational) for eight years as evangelists, youth pastors, and prison ministries. Two of them working in a church in Hazard Kentucky, which was an eye opening experience for both of us. I still believe, but have a hard time in what the church has become.

I am also a supporter of Norml which is the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws. Way to many peoples lives have been ruined because of these laws.
So smoke em if you got em!

Hi ALL. I brought your thread back to life here. I just happened to come across this and sure enjoyed reading about everyone.

1. Born and raised in La Porte, Indiana. Moved to South Bend and have been living here for the past 14 years. I've lived in Indiana my whole life. Only moved about 40 miles from my hometown - sad I know!

2. I'm also an introvert as well. Not much of a "social" person tend to keep to myself though I must say, far from being a shy person, just keep to myself.

3. Happily single and I do stress the word HAPPILY -no kids.

4. Work obsessed - Yes I do enjoy going to work everyday. Have quite a few people convinced at work I live there.

5. Diagnosed with RA (rheumatoid arthritis) when I was 18 so I've had it for the past 20 years. Main reason I'm work obsessed, when I'm working, I don't feel arthritis as much, not thinking about it.

continued ran out of room:

6. In spite of RA I can type at least 100 words a minute including any typos so stop trying to locate them. Before RA I was lucky to type 40 words a minute. Actually this is all I do all day long is type while listening to music.

7. . Music - Oh the 80's, but my all time favorite was, is now, and will always be Michael Jackson.

8. Books - Stephen King or autobiographies. The last book I read was Patrick Swayze's The Time Of My LIfe. Though I must say I don't read as much as I use to since that's all I do all day long is READ and type as I mentioned earlier.

9. Movies - I like a wide variety however a die hard fan of Alfred Hitchock movies - I love horror.

10. When I'm not working I'm usually hanging out here at the Gamehouse playing a game. For the past several months been pretty game obsessed here. Games relax me and help me unwind from a days work. Also a die hard fan of the hidden object games especially "dark side" games like Dead Time Stories and Salem Witch Trials, just to name a couple.

here are a few things that you will now know about me.
I'm 63 and married to the same gal for 41 yrs. 2 kids and 1 grandson. I have a masters degree in history and like a lot of people do not use my degree in employment. I taught school for 3 yrs and then went into the insurance business and have been at it for 38 yrs.
My passion is my boat and fishing, fresh and salt water. I love to garden and the veggies are coming in like wildfire now. I'm making enough pasta sauce to start my own business. Wife and I travel a lot. I love sports, especially pro football. Patriots season ticket holder for over 30 yrs. Was at the last 4 Super Bowls they played in. I read lots of books. Currently on a splurge with Lee Child's Jack Reacher novels. I spend too much time with PC games but I am addicted to HOGs. I enjoy the byplay that some of have here in the Lounge. Over and out.

Hey-hoo, all! anymore old or new tidbits to share? From me:

1. I spent part of my childhood in an orphanage... confusing when both of your parents are still alive.

2. I have a beautiful, gifted, wonderful daughter who just graduated college and is testing her wings... driving cross-country to settle and pursue grad school and any job she can get at first! Well... not "any" job...

3. After crying for a week (off-n-on always) I purchased a tapestry loom to get back into my old love of weaving. Maybe I'll start putting away the rubber duckies and toys now??? Those poster paints are kinda like cement...

4. I love every single day. My hubby's had three life-threatening open-heart surgeries (heart defect) and a hip replacement, so the just sight of him is a gift to me.

5. Hubby raced sailboats for 20 years or so (as crew) and many a "great ocean race" while I was the lady on the shore pacing the grass thin. He's going on a reunion race weekend after next, and I'll follow by land as usual.

Thought that I would stop by and say hi.
Sometime ago I thought of starting a doll foundation to help women who suffer from depression.
I wasn't sure how to do that so I let it slide'
When I was in the hospital, a lady brought around dolls that had been made for the elderly.
I am considering making my dolls again or repairing cloth dolls.
I took a repair course that I never finished.
I also am considering writing about chronic pain and nerve.
Post traumatic stress disorder interests me to.
Hope everyone is doing okay. I am still around each day.

1. I am 37.

2. Married twice and sofar the second time works out fine. There are no kids.

3. After school I did an apprenticeship to learn how to decorate shopwindows. Afterwards I just could work as a salesperson.

4. After 10 years of selling all kinds of stuff I did a second apprenticeship to work in any kind of office (typing etc.) Afterwards I found a better job in a small communal bank, that gives money of the European Community to small companies.

5. I love to paint, but have no time or quiet for it

6. I am probably an introvert, too - for I have just a few good friends and am not a "social animal".

7. I love to travel and now am earning enough money to go and see some places I always wanted to see.

8. I love to take pictures of the places I visit and learn about their history.

9. I love dragons - that may be known in this part of the Forum....

10. I love chocolate and coffee.

11. I probably have just scratched on the surface of what to tell.

Hi Candy:

OMG! How neat. I can't believe you just read this! LOL! I read Patrick Swayze's book a few months ago. Actually finished it within a day cause I just couldn't put it down. Normally just like a game, once I've finished it, I've finished but this is by far the best book I've ever read and one that I could read many times over. After reading his book I honestly understand why I've always been a HUGE fan of his. RIP Patrick Swayze.

What do I do at work? I transcribe surveys. Depending how many hours I work I process anywhere between 300 - 600 a day. And yes I do this while listening to music though my IPOD was acting up today so I had to go without music; was very hard to concentrate. First time I ever had to go without my music. My backup IPOD is now charged so I can go back into work to finish my shift now.

Hi Mooma:

Yes music with vocals and I can barely do it without music. Also has to be something pretty "upbeat." I listen to a wide variety of music, from the 50's to the 80's; however a die hard fan of the 80's. As I mentioned I had to go without music yesterday and it about drove my nuts because all I could hear was keyboards and people talking.

continued since I ran out of room:

I'm actually pretty amazed I can type at all because my hands are pretty crippled up from arthritis and I was actually told by doctors and surgeons after having my left wrist fused back in 1995 to "give up the day job" cause I wouldn't be able to do this line of work. I was at a different job typing but not near as much as this job and well when I was told that as I'm a pretty stubborn gal, if someone tells me "NO" and it's something I love to do that's when I get my "Patrick Swayze attitude" going so to speak and I seeked out a job that required even more typing - my current job. Not only could I still type but I type better now than before I had RA. It's all a mind over matter in my humble opinion!

Yes that sure was a fantastic book. By far the best I ever read and it was a "breath of fresh air." Some positive reading. Yeah it was a football injury back in high school.

Oh and this is actually kinda creepy to me but anyway, when he passed away. I was actually sleeping on the couch and had a dream, well more like a nightmare, that he had died and when I woke up as the TV was still on, they had a picture of him and stating that he had died.

continued since I ran out of room:

And while I know he had cancer but it sure shocked me because I thought for sure he'd be around at least another year if not two with that "attitude" he had and I cried like a baby as I felt like I lost a family member. I'm so glad that Patrick and his wife Lisa shared his life story before he passed. It's amazing how some people can touch your life and make such an impact when you've never even had the chance to meet them. Yeah and he also mentioned in his book about whether or not if he made his mark in the world. Well as far as I'm concerned he sure did. He will always have an impact on my life especially when it comes to dealing with any kind of pain; to just keep going.

I know, sporty, I was sad too and thought he would be the one to make it out of pancreatic cancer. My mother in law died of that same thing. I know how you feel about someone being like a family member. I felt that way when Lucille Ball died. She died on the same day and same year as my mother. Swazey was my daughters' favorite actor and she always repeated that line from dirty dancing "nobody puts baby in a corner'. Maybe she got to meet her idol somewhere beyond here since she passed in 2003. Wow, that was so spooky about the dream. Just wow gal!

Well to me Candy you're not like an open book since I just started really posting here the last few days so I have A LOT of catching up to do here. I'm so sorry to be reading of your losses; your daughter, mom, and mother-in-law. I sure hope your daughter got to meet her idol.

I use to read about that many books (3 to 4 a week) until I started working at the job I'm at now which is going on 9 years. A few months ago I was really starting to read books again as I started off with Melissa Gilbert's book Prairie Tale, Maureen Mc Cormick (Marcia Brady, Brady Bunch), Todd Bridge's book Killing Willis, Patrick Swayze's book, and my last book was Melissa Sue Anderson's (Mary Ingalls from Little House On The Prairie) and that's when it went down hill for me as while I like her but I could only get through maybe 50 pages of her book because she kept "recapping" Little House episodes as I have the whole collection on DVD. I was expecting to read way more how she got along with the cast which she touched on briefly and about her life especially after the "prairie. " Maybe it came later in the book but I just couldn't bring myself to continue. That's why I said Patrick's book was my last book because that was the last one I read all the way through.

Oh and yes I'm also a fan of Little House On The Prairie - RIP Michael Landon as I cried when he died too.

Hi, sportygal... thanks for joining in! I'm a transcriber also, but must admit I've never tried listening to music while doing it! Music with vocals? How do you do it!?

Since I never really answered the question here. What started me "typing to music" was back in 1995 which was way before I started working at my current job. I was at the other job typing and getting ready to go back to work on Monday. It was about about a month after I had my wrist fusion surgery and my very first time to sit down at the keyboard after having surgery which was on a Smith Corona typewriter and just happened to turn on the radio, a flash back to the 80's weekend, and it was no other than Michael Jackson's song "Beat It." I typed a whopping 68 words a minute with 3 typos and have been hooked to "listening to music" ever since and have built my speed since then and so grateful I'm allowed to have music at work with the headphones of course.
