My old Dell (optiplex) which is still working fine after various upgrades and part replacements Well, I just upgraded to a flat panel monitor! I went out to Best Buy and saw on display an eMachines 18.5" flat panel monitor. The price said CLEARANCE $83.46. So I went to ask if there was any in stock. When they rang it up at the register it was $59.99 on a further clearance! My receipt said $119.99 / $60.00 clearance savings! After tax and recycling fees I paid $73. Not bad for a new monitor that looks fantastic to look at and easy on my eyes.

That's great. We bought a computer at bestbuy the other week for $499. After months of having problems with our old computer it went peacefully and wouldn't turn on anymore. Maybe it died in its sleep. The power light was on, but nothing was on the screen. My brother thinks the motherboard fried.

Good for you, wolverine!! I went flat panel some time back and like it soooo much better!! Ffwfire--I had the same problem with a monitor not long ago. When I signed on, I could hear the sign-on music in the background but the screen would not light up. So I got another monitor because my computer go-to guy doesn't do monitors.

Glad you got a new monitor and at such a great deal, x2wolverine. I'm trying to figure out how to connect my laptop to my TV screen.

Wow, wolvie... can't believe this is your first flat panel after all of your computer changes/enhancements over the years. You'll love it, that's for sure!

Hi x2wolverine,

I was in the same boat and I decided it was time, after several years with the same PC at home, to spring for a new computer. It took me six months of putting away cash in a little box at home (for some reason that system works for me) and at the end of June I bought my new iMac, on which I'm typing this note.

I'm so happy for you to have gotten your flat panel monitor and I just wanted to encourage you to go for it with a new computer!

Best wishes to you,

Bill

My flat panel is actually my 24" TV. I just had to buy a VGA cable to hook them up. It cost me a lot less than buying them separately after the digital switch that made my old TV more nuisance than anything.
