Hi there, 'jjrsvp' --

Believe me, it took me a long time to "get" the 24-hour clock. Working in the travel industry surely helped!

In the 24-hour clock the day begins at 00:00, or Midnight.* Times shown as 00:01 through 11:59 equal 12:01 AM through 11:59 AM.

Noon is expressed as 12:00, after which the hours are added to '12' to obtain the 24-hour time. Thus 12:01 through 23:59 equals 12:01 PM through 11:59 PM. Midnight* at day's end would be 24:00, the end of the 24-hour day.

*You'll see references to Midnight as 00:00 and 24:00 depending upon the point of view, that is either the start or end of a given day.

If I see a time expressed as greater than '12' I just subtract '12' from the number to arrive at the equivalent 12-hour time. For example:

14:45 = 2:45 PM (14-12 = 2)

19:15 = 7:15 PM (19-12 = 7) ... and so on.

Not sure if we can get a clock in The Lounge but let me inquire. Meanwhile I hope this helped a little...or did I just add confusion? I apologize if that is the case. Also Wikipedia has a pretty good article on the 24-hour clock.

Cheers,
Bill

Hmm...how can I offer this without getting myself into trouble?

There is a site where one can get all kinds of good information about the 'time and date' and where one can configure their own personal world clock.

'nuff said.

Thanks for your suggestion, Mr. Bill... but I do hope the "changing of the time" from 24-hour to 12-hour is on that improvement list? Some sites have a "preference list" as to which way you want to "see" it, but I think most prefer the 12-hour. Doing any kind of math in my head makes it hurt.

In Windows Vista and Windows 7 , you can add additional clocks to the system for display. Use your gadgets, or add one in the date and time properties.

Hi, wolvie! Yes, I have one on my task bar (that's what you meant, right?), but it sure would be nice to look at a post and see exactly when it was posted, instead of having to relate it. I have XP also jj, and we're not old-fashioned at all. Just smart.
