I asked GH shortly after I joined and had used the lady avatar in error if they would change it. GH's response then was that it was impossible to do so!!! GH, it's over a year later, is the change still impossible??

On an entirely different matter, GH now has posted a HOG, 1 Penguin, 100 Cases. If you have not played this game give it a go. THe characters are cartoonish which in this case is a major plus. The game is very sassy in its dialogue. The HOG scenes are challenging enough to maintain player interest. It is a long game so buyers get their moneys worth. The teacher who appears early in the game speaks with a pronounced Oriental accent. He is laugh out loud funny. IMO, it's one of the best games in the past 2 yrs.

I've been meaning to ask you for the longest time what's up with your avatar. Well now I know.

Yeah I'm with Poppa here as I took this so called survey and only ONE DARN QUESTION. I don't do Facebook or Twitter just not a desire of mine but if you ever do get serious on improvements here well you could start with your so called tech support. Only a few people I've found to be truly helpful and knowledgeable and the rest I've dealt with don't know much about the 64-bit computer and compatibility with games as I've proven this TWICE now within the last couple of months here.

I was wondering about Poppa. Seemed an odd name for a gal, but you never know by some of the names people choose. So Poppa is a guy. Hello, sir!

I nearly opened a new thread but came across Poppa's before. I've only been a member here for a couple of days, but I have to agree with Poppa. I find the 1000 character limit extremely annoying, because how can anyone get a point across with such few characters and without running into danger of being misunderstood? I'd also vote for a Private Messaging system. I find this forum very 'dead', and don't get this the wrong way, please. If I'm really honest, I find it eerie, too quiet, there's some life missing here. In my experience gamers like to talk as much as they like to play games, but the forum doesn't seem to be designed to allow that and as a newbie (seeing how 'dead' the lounge is) it kind of scares me little. GH should work on that, definately!

Pandora you are so right. What you're not aware of being new here, is that lots of us have asked, begged and screamed at GH to make improvements in the Lounge to make it a more inviting place to be. GH comes out with the same old same old saying betterments are in the works and we have been hearing these platitudes for close to 2 yrs now. Personally I think GH really has no intention of modernizing the Lounge. I am of the opinion that the better the lounge is, the better it is for GH in terms of making sales. There is definitely strength in numbers and the regulars here can be counted on fingers and toes.

I respectfully suggest that GH start listening. I know a lot of "other" forum people are looking at switching to this site. The main reason they haven't is the forum is TOO quiet. They like to get a daily dose of "chit chat" and then check out the games. I am sure that Pandora knows exactly what I am talking about. Even tho I had a different user name over at the other one. Could not use it here as it was already in "use" apparently. Oh well, ce la vie.

Ah, yes, glad this was brought to the top again. I mean, really, GH... the very few requests we've been asking (re: avatars, character limits, private messaging...) are very, very minor changes in programming. So why not do it and get it out of the way, already. These are things that've been asked since the opening of this forum (over a year ago), and still, they seem to be either "in the works" or "looked into"... well, why not just say it ain't happening and be honest. Let this ol' forum die out for lack of new breath placed into it... it does take something to build a forum other than a handful of unanswered posts. If people don't have a good time, they leave. Which doesn't say much for the ones who keep trying to build interest here and the ones who lurk and don't offer a danged thing yet feel okay complaining about it when they do speak up... ohhhhh wellll. Yeah. It does take certain features. Or the newbies pass us by for lack of communication on both ends.

But then perhaps GH is doing so well selling games that they don't NEED a forum. If that's the case, then let us know so we can drift away in peace.

Hi all ! I agree with everyone there really need to be some changes here this could really be a great place if we were given the proper toys to play with. I would love to be able to do more than 1000 characters and I would also love a pm system. I think everyone here is great and we deserve it we spend alot of money here. Pandora I agree it is dead here but I hope that doesn't run you off. Each night I'm on and Sportygal is on we are in a thread called Sportygal Let's Go To The Circus. I don't know what time zone your in but we are usually on each night around 1:00 am eastern time so anytime your up and want to do some chit chatting please come on in to that thread and join in we would love to have you we talk about different things games and just everyday crap so anytime you want just jump on in that thread with us. I live in the U.S. in North Carolina so I'm on eastern time and so is Sporty so please join us anytime you want or just pop in there and leave a post whether we are there or not we will respond to you so please join in if you want to.

But... but... what about the rest of us, G?? No offense, but when I try to join in there, it seems you gals are so content on talking with each other and your responses go back and forth so quickly, that I really do give up about trying to participate in that thread. Nothing on either of you... I love you both. But that seems to be the Puffing Gamehoppers thread and it's very hard to fit a word in edgewise there. I get a response, but then you go back to each other. I'm sure you'd feel the same if you were on the outside looking in, so try to think about what it seems like to outsiders. Once again, no offense, and I mean that genuinely. I just wish you guys would start new threads about things, but much of the conversation seems to be personal. Just my feelings, and they are true.

I agree! Anyone is welcome to post on there and I've always acknowledge you Moo or at least try to. Maybe I have missed a post but most of the time I acknowledge you or anyone else who has posted there.

During the week I'm rarely on here during the day because I work 2nd shift. By the time I get off from work which is 11 at night the only one that seems to be up around here is Ms. G.

Wow, so many replies to my last post . Yes, kujo I know exactly what you mean us gamers love chit chatting, joke a lot and playing the odd prank. For me it's the essence of part of a gaming community and in my experience a lively forum takes the chill out of the bones from lost newbies. So chances are that with a better forum, axing the minimum characters (1000 characters is ridiculously few), allowing PM's, a fresh lick of paint and new customers will flock in here by the thousands.

To be continued (due to too few characters)

I agree with mooma that people will walk away if they can't have a good time apart from playing. When I looked aroung for a a new games portal one of my main criteria, apart from value for money, actually was the forum. Where I don't agree with you, mooma, is that GH may be doing so well on sales that they don't need one. To me the promises of revamping the forum and then not doing it, gives me the indication that they may not be doing so well. After all, a well-designed and run forum doesn't come cheap. I think it would increase the bandwith, also you'd need manpower (well trained and motivated moderators) 24/7. But it my honest opinion it would be a good investment for GH to become more competitive on the market and eventually the leader.
(To be continued ran out of characters, AGAIN!)

(I know somebody will soon pop a head in and say "We are the market leader", but we know that isn't true ) If a company doesn't listen and act to the wishes of its existing customers they're doing something wrong. Why? Because the wishes of the expectations of their existing customers also apply to potential new customers.

Mooma suggested in a Thursday post that the lack of participation in the lounge and I am paraphrasing " doesn't say much about those of us who try to improve it ". Sorry Moo and I'm sure you didn't mean it that way but for the dozen or so of us who are frequently here, it says everything about us, We're beating our heads against the wall to keep this place viable. It's nice that we have a couple of newbies who want to be regulars ( kujo and pandora ), but it's not enough. What I find most interesting about the last ten or so posts in the thread is that no one at GH has had the stones to chime in and respond. We all know someone is reading the posts. So I am inviting GH to let us know once and for all what and when something is being done to better the lounge.

I think the upcoming page design will help bring in new people. Right now, to find the forums, I have to go to My Gamehouse, and then the forums are listed. That would say to me that people who aren't members of Gamehouse may not know a forum even exists because they probably don't have a My Gamehouse.

From what I have seen of the new front page that Gamehouse has been putting out there every now and then, "Communities" is on the front page. You don't have to click through anything to get there. If people can find the forums, there will probably be more people.

The most frustrating part for me is to ask a question on a specific game forum (about gameplay, like I'm stuck--not technical issues) and more often than not it doesn't ever get answered or, if so, eons later because hardly anyone goes to the individual game sites anymore.

Another forum I belong to is also real slow right now, so it could be people are busy waiting for spring and summer.

I don't think people are too busy and/or waiting for spring and summer, yusef. I am convinced people find it difficult to use and find anything in this forum. I came across a question for a specific game in the games forum yesterday and the post was from February, where somebody described a game who he or she couldn't remember the name of. I think I know this game and answered, but I don't think this person will ever read it. I find the games forum the way it is very confusing, to find something in there that I would need an answer for is next to impossible as the games forums don't seem to be for any specific game. There seems to be the one games forum and that's it. Unless I couldn't find any other ones, which proofs that the entire forum situation here needs a good sorting out and as we as users know how a forum should be designed and work (we all use them enough) and act accordingly.

Good evening. How is everyone? This has always been a very quiet forum. People seemed to be interested in one or two threads.
Other topics were posted but they got no replies If more threads were started, others might find one of interest.

Dear GH, just something i noticed, and its a GOOD thing. Your forum pages list the last "date" of a post. Very easy to see a dormant thread that way. And they seem to be in date order too. If you do revamp the forums, please keep that portion.

Posted on Fri Apr 01 16:57:25 PDT 2011

Hi everyone,

I've been reading your comments here and in other threads about our Forums. What we believed would be fairly straightforward modifications to the program (an already modified version of forum software) has proven to be more challenging. Having worked in the capacity of an IT Director (in a previous 'life') I have seen many seemingly 'simple fixes' turn out to be anything but.

We're evaluating our options for the Forums as we believe the GameHouse Community is an integral part of the overall GameHouse experience. I'm reluctant to suggest a time frame as it is not possible to predict one at this point. But we're actively looking for the best solution to provide you a rich community experience that addresses the issues you've identified as important (absolutely including the 1,000 character limit).

In addition to your comments within these pages, please feel free to reach out to us via the ForumAdmins@gamehouse.com address.

With my thanks and best wishes,
Bill

Hi, Bill, and thanks for following us here. But am I wrong in assuming that to increase the limit of characters per posts is just a programmer changing the command wording to read perhaps 2,000 characters instead of 1,000 characters? I know a couple of computer programmers meself, and they say that's all it would take. But maybe I'm wrong. And having worked in graphics half of my life, I used to give our newsletter folks any avatar they wanted for very little work. Sure, it was still limited, but not to outlines and sometimes of the wrong gender. I've also belonged to several proboards that had no problem supplying us with any avatar we chose to upload. Again, perhaps I'm wrong. Anyway, thanks for letting us know that these are "still in the works," albeit over a year later.

And poppa, I can't find the exact quote you referred to, but I'm sure I wasn't trying to knock those trying to improve this forum, quite the opposite. I think that those of us that've been here for awhile have always tried to get new threads moving, encourage newbies to participate, etc. Tough I don't notice any head-banging, just attempts here and there. If people don't stay, there's something lacking... either in communication or general appeal of the forum itself. Or maybe they're simply hooked on FaceBook and the like and don't do this small stuff.

Mr. Bill, thank you for the timely response. It definitely helps to keep the interest in the site. As a former member of another site I can honestly say, forums work. Please advise the higher ups that we come here to check chat, game questions and other stuff before we search out games. The overall gamer experience is now expecting a forum to play word games, chat, tell jokes and get insight on other games. If you added to your forums, you would attract many more customers. I am on another forum site, not a gaming site, but they talk about games alot. I can recommend GH on that site without worry of violating any rules. I know many have said that the forums here lack something and that is why they went elsewhere. BUT, they are all interested.

Hi, kujo, and thanks for your input. But is it lack of participation? or forum design? Nice to know people are "interested," but do they ever mention what keeps them from coming here? I know the design put me off at first... I was simply used to the "old" real arcade forums. And we usually had plenty of participation there.

I have never and will never presume to be an expert about computers. I am very qualified to detail the things that keep customers pleased. I have owned my own business for close to 40 yrs. and most of my clients have been with me all that time. The reason is I keep them happy by providing the best service I can. While I appreciate Bill's most recent response and I can appreciate the dilemmas that IT personel deal with, it's still hard for me to fathom that none of the improvements ( character limitations, avatars, PM's etc. ) have been implemented by GH when those of us who have truly cared about being at GH have been asking about these items for well over a year. The rather poor response time still has me believing that these items are very low on the GH totem pole.

Thanks for the reply, Bill and I'm glad to read that GH are still considering. Shame, though, that you can't give us any time line, because that means that we are being kept in a sort of infinite state, Would an ultimatum help? What about Christmas? And with that I mean the one of 2011? . I find it difficult to believe that a site that doesn't only host games, but also developes some, struggles with revamping or re-creating something as simple as a forum. In my mind it's pretty easy:
* Get rid of the 1000 character limit
* Allow Personal Messages
* Make access to the forum easier
* Have a forum for each game and design it so they can be accessed in alphabetical order, this would make reviews easier and allow for tips and hints

That's all I can think of so far

Mooma, actually it is the layout of the forums and where they are located on the main page. Most of the "other" people I have talked with don't even know there is a forum here. That is the reason they went elsewhere.

Just for GH information. All the people I am talking to have also left the "original" site we were on. Most have gone to one or two other sites. If you want to know which ones, send me an e-mail.

]I am new to gh forums and I may be posting in the wrong area but I have noticed that there don't seem to be very many postings on games in the support area. For instance if I need help on a game (non technical help) if I am stuck at some point in game and I go the that games particular forum I never get any help. It seems not many people respond to or even post in these forums. Am I not looking in right place for game help. When I have a question on a game I purchased at bigfish games I can go to there forums and there are always a lot of posts associated with one of there games. And I can always get help. Again, am I just not looking in the right place for help?

Hi Kit - first of all a hearty welcome and second don't worry, you don't post in the wrong area!
The section of the forum for the single games is not very userfriendly to navigate und I noticed the same as you. Posting there usually brings no help. They should be easier to access and navigate.

I noticed also, that if you post your question in the support or lounge section it may very well happen, that somebody (not GH staff, but other users) is telling you, that you should have posted in the games section. That is something I really don't like, for as GH often states the forums are there for the gamers to help each other and such posts are very counterproductive.

No one need reinvent the wheel here. As far as the game forum, why not borrow the excellent usage that the pond relies on to solicit gamer response and help from the gameplayers. Most folks will do the 1 hour trial before deciding on a purchase. When the trial ends in the pond, the screen shows an important segment which states simply GET TIPS IN THE FORUM. Here at GH, the one hour trial just ends with an option to purchase. I must assume that BFG is the largest online game retailer and if GH wishes better growth in sales, perhaps it should recall an old saying: Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. GH would need to tweak its format to avoid any copyright infringement, but the improvement is needed.

I was checking on something that someone else mentioned. What brought me to the forum, was a question about a game. I have just noticed that on other sites the game comes back on and down at the bottom is a button that will take you straight to the game forum. I would like to see that here.

Good suggestion, granny59da! I believe that's the way it was on the RealArcade forum, and you didn't have to think about finding it... and the game forums were the busiest place in the whole community. Links are the way to go.

Hello everyone

I just made an account on here a few minutes ago. I havent been on game house since like... 2002? When there was chat. I would be on my other account that I had back then but I dont remember the password.. heh.

I came to the forums wondering why there was no chat. Apparently they changed it to forums? Well I guess so

Ive been reading all that you guys have been saying and I totally agree. I am not exactly a huge "forumer" but when Im on a game site I always try to participate in the forums and meet new people and just have an overall good time.

To be continued

I want to say two things..
I think you guys are completely 100% correct. And I know you all know it, but I just thought Id say it too. You arent asking for huge outrageous changes, just simple things to get more pleasure out of the site. I like your ideas and I would like to contribute to this forum as well.
Also, I think you guys are very nice and social-able people. I think talking for "chit-chat" (since that phrase has been thrown around) would be great with you.

Well, just thought Id stop in and say that.
