I was just checking this out. Starting November 1st the developer of the granny games is shutting down.
They have been acquired by another company and plan to go into social gaming.

Really! Maybe they'll sell the super granny game rights to another company rather than give up the game completely.

Gamehouse sells the Granny games, from this developer. I wonder how it will affect our games.

While this change is big, it brings a big opportunity to bring community games to everyone in the form of Super Granny, Westward, and a few other franchises that Sandlot was well known for. You know how Sandlot gives a free game away each week right? Well this month, so far, they have been bringing new free games to their offering away from the usual repeats they have had on and off.

Are you saying it's Sandlot who is the developer, x2wolverine? They have put out quite a lot of good games.

Yes it is Sandlot Games that has been purchased by a company called Digital Chocolate. Here is a link to the details regarding this purchase:

I just read the press release from x2wolverine's link and the Sandlot website. Oh, no! Cake Mania, too. I was hoping to see more of those. Maybe they'll sell the series to another developer. Same with Super Granny. They both have quite a following.

Sandlot's shutdown as a standalone developer seems really sad news.

GameZebo's article on this is well worth reading:

Monday Morning Quarterback: Farewell to Sandlot Games, and Goodbye to Innovation in PC Casual Downloads - by D. Becker (Oct 10, 2011).

A quote: "With Sandlot Games leaving the market, fans should give up hope of seeing sequels to Sandlot's popular and polished brands such as Cake Mania, Westward and Tradewinds."

This is sad news for us gamers, especially the ones who play these popular series. But with the price of games cut in half or dropping to a couple of dollars or given away free, it's not surprising that companies are looking at other options.
