I don't know if this is normal, but could someone help me if I'm not being hacked as I have only noticed this now after having my computer returned from the programmer after I had a virus freeze my computer. Does anyone else notice if they download 2 of 2 files? I also notice a very brief windows site come up and at a glance in the address it says "switchboard"
If someone could help. I have a new computer with Windows 7 only purchased early this year and it spends most of the time at the programmers.
I update my virus protection and scan daily with a very reliable Internet security programme, but still have more problems with this computer than I ever had with my XP. And can I mention which Internet protection I have?
It looks to me that I'm downloading on mine as well as someone elses computer as it starts off with one and then suddenly 2 appears.

Hi Blinkers,

Welcome back, we have missed you. How are you?

I can't say about all the rest, but I have also newly 2 game files in download, also when I only download one game.
I must admit I don't have the window coming up with the switchboard, but that one can be a windows 7 thingy, I run XP and I am very happy with it.

Cheers

I'm using Windows 7, I don't get another window opening during the download, but the GH download window does download '1 of 2 files' (which is usually a quick one) then '2 of 2 files' (which is the long one that takes an age to download on my dreadful broadband LOL). I can't help you on the 'switchboard' thing I'm afraid; are you using Internet Explorer by any chance? (I use Firefox)

I also have windows 7 and it downloads 2 of 2 files for every game. I have not seen a switchboard message but then I minimize the window when I am downloading, so I could just be missing that message. I am also using Firefox instead of IE, since IE 9 is such a bad browser. Your problems could very well stem from IE 9 if that is what you are using.

Hello lagoona, SilverSuki and CallMeCoors. Thank you for your reply and easing my mind that its OK. I'm on Internet Explorer 8 and I want to wait until I read more of IE9 as I had so many problems with it. I can start to download all of my games again. Some I hadn't even begun to play when my computer crashed. I love my old XP but its a 2003 model and I was running out of room, so I purchased this new computer with Windows 7 and still trying to find my way around.

Lagoona, I was away, because my mother had been an invalid at home for some time and I was looking after her until she became so bad that she had to be hospitalised and then moved into a nursing home. It broke my heart to see her suffering. She passed away last month.

Hi Blinkers,

I am truly sorry, that you lost your mom.

You have sent a message in a new thread before you had your time out and there are several gamers which have responded to it. It's no more accessible in the hot topics, too many new threads are done since then, but you can find it under The Lounge button in the Forum, you know the top line, where it has the titles Games Forums, Support Forums etc.

If you want to set your mind on something else, which does good now and then, the invite still stands to the VGP.

Cheers

Lagonna, thank you for your message re my new thread. I could not find my initial thread, but my mind at the time was a little fuzzy. I also broke my toe 3 days before my mother died, so didn't get to go to the nursing home to see her, that really broke my heart, as it was almost an hours drive from home and there was nobody to take me.

Hi Blinkers80,

I am so sorry to hear, that you broke your toe. That hurts. If you still have pain with it, try to Google Weleda New Zealand and there it gives a cream, called ARNICA, which is created with Anthroposophical Medicine (all natural and with the connection to the elements) and it is like a wonder cream for broken bones, over-rolled joints, ligaments and pains. It takes 1/3 of the usual time to heal. The Arnica is absolutely not to be used by any skin damages or wounds.

For skin damages you use the CALENDULA. I have cured once with the Calendula a white tail bite and all the blackness went away within a week and the poison couldn't attack anymore my flesh.

Don't feel guilty, that you couldn't visit your mother. I am pretty sure, she knows what has happened and she is fine with it. Especially for all the time you where looking after her, she will never forget that, belief me.

Maybe your injury happened for a reason. Maybe faith wants you to learn, that you don't need to have a guilt feeling for anything, which you have no influence upon it. Our pathways are sometimes full of why's, when we look deeper into it we sometimes find the messages it sends to us and that helps us for an other stone on our way.
Hugs
Susan / Lagoona

To answer your original question, this is why you are always seeing 2 files downloading.

The small EXE stub that you download (GameHouse-Installer_am-GAMENAMEHERE_gamehouse_.exe) contains the files to start the downloading process.

**THIS IS WHERE "DOWNLOADING 1 OF 2" BEGINS**

Once you launch it, a bunch of files are extracted and it downloads the following:

custom.rga <-- this file is a RAR archive and gets extracted to a folder called "gamehouse_" located in your temp folder on your hard drive.

The files that custom.rga extracts are as follows:

custom.rga
gameinst.xml
\Splash\GameHouse_800x600_black(24bit).png
\Splash\GameHouse_800x600_black.jpg
\Splash\GameHouse_800x600_black.png
\Splash\.....
[THERE ARE APRROX. 30 FILES IN THE SPLASH FOLDER. I WON'T LIST THEM ALL]

The reason for this step is to download all artwork, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript files, and other stub related stuff for the GUI of the install engine for specific games based on content ID.

**THIS IS WHERE "DOWNLOADING 1 OF 2" ENDS**

**THIS IS WHERE "DOWNLOADING 2 OF 2" BEGINS**

This is the part where the ACTUAL game installer archive is downloaded, which is simply just a compressed RAR archive. This part of the process can be the longest, as depending on the size of the file will solely depend on how long it takes to download it to your hard drive.

It will be extracted to your game install folder (it will be deleted once installed) and will have one of the below filename schemes:

GAMENAMEHERE.rga
am-GAMENAMEHERE.rga

Once the above RGA file is completely downloaded, the original stub EXE launches a file called "gameinstaller.exe" and "bstrapinstall.exe" to unpack the RGA file and install it to your hard drive.

The default install path is: "C:\GameHouse Games\GAMENAMEHERE\"

**THIS IS WHERE "DOWNLOADING 2 OF 2" ENDS**

This COMPLETELY covers the installing process from web stub to successful install.

Oh btw, to answer your question about the "switchboard", this is used as part of the URL path (switchboard.real.com). This may not be the exact path, but it is nothing more than a directory or path on the Real, er uh Gamehouse servers

If anyone wonders how i came to this conclusion, I simply ran a random stub exe file with SandboxIE (google it) and did an analysis of what was happening step by step. There are also several log files left behind and other junk

Suki, when I got my big TV, I took a picture of the back side with all the inlets. Then I took it to work for a computer geek to tell me how to do it. He also told me how what to click on the computer, which I wrote down, because I would not remember since I seldom connect into my TV.

Or, you could just ask esc0.

How odd. When I do a post (like now), esc0's avatar shows as a male in the Download post but a female in the Cables post. What on earth??? And when I'm not posting and just reading, esc0 is a male avatar only, even on the Cables post.

I have since noticed it is not just you that gets "transgendered" on the posting screen. Curious how the avatar can change like that, but even if someone explained, I probably wouldn't understand the computerese.

I am having trouble downloading a game. I receive an error message saying 'network related problem. Press yes to retry or no to exit. This happens after the first of two files have downloaded. I have tried the solutions on the support page but it is happening again. I am using windows vista and internet explorer 8. I have downloaded many games so this is rather a new problem to me. Any advice?

Posted on Thu Nov 10 05:48:30 PST 2011

Hello PEPONI,

Sorry for the trouble. Sometimes the firewall or security program on your computer can block the download process. In such cases, you may have to configure or temporarily turn-off the firewall program in your computer and try to download again. Check the solutions given in the link below:

http://support.gamehouse.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/937

Let us know how it goes.

Regards,
LanceK

I for one, am sincerely grateful, esc0rtd3w, that you took the trouble to find the answer and share it with us!! I have been meaning to ask why, all of a sudden, GH was sending 2 files instead of the one game file I asked for. I assumed it was the additional file for the ASPCA or some such they're always trying to get us to get as well, but that it just doesn't run when you tell it NO, don't send it, LOL. Well good to know they're not just sending it anyway.
