A Word to Our Mac Customers about game compatibility with OS X Lion

Hi everyone,

We are making significant progress to tag all of our Mac games as being compatible or incompatible, as the case may be, with OS X 10.7 Lion. We are on track to update, by end of day tomorrow (Wednesday, July 27th), each Mac game's download page with the respective compatibility note. You will be able to see whether or not a Mac game is compatible with OS X 10.7 by reading the notation under Game Details.

I believe this will be a better solution than referring you to lengthy lists of games in the Forums or in a Knowledge Base article. And, as the process of validating game compatibility with OS X 10.7 is dynamic and ongoing, updates to individual game compatibility notes will be easily accomplished.

The compatibility notes that I entered today will be 'live' on our website via overnight processing. In my update to this thread tomorrow afternoon I will provide specific examples for you.

With my continued gratitude for your business and your support,

Bill

Greetings everyone!

The Games Release and QA Teams and I have finished entering OS X 10.7 compatibility notes for the titles in our Mac game catalog.

Starting today (Thursday, July 28th you will be able to check under Game Details on the download page for your game to see if it is "Compatible with OS X 10.7" or "Not yet compatible with OS X 10.7."

Some examples follow:

"Compatible with OS X 10.7"

Mortimer Beckett and the Time Paradox for Mac

Jewel Quest Mysteries - The Seventh Gate for Mac

Elizabeth Find MD Diagnosis Mystery, Season 2 for Mac

The "Compatible..." notation tells you that the game has been shown to work as expected when downloaded to a Mac running OS X 10.7 and also when it was already installed on a Mac that, later, was upgraded to OS X 10.7.

"Not yet compatible with OS X 10.7"

Miriel the Magical Merchant for Mac

Luxor for Mac

Big Kahuna Reef 2 - Chain Reaction for Mac

The "Not yet compatible..." notation tells you that the game has not yet been shown to be compatible when downloaded to a Mac running OS X 10.7. Some customers may find those games to work with their specific Mac system if those games were already installed before that computer was upgraded to OS X 10.7 but there is no guarantee that they will work in such instances. Mac games that are "Not yet compatible with OS X 10.7" are planned to be compatible; our goal is that our entire Mac catalog will be compatible in the coming months. Some cases require a game update from the developers.

Overall I hope that this system of notes under Game Details will be helpful to you. Remember that the process of validating OS X 10.7 compatibility is ongoing; we will update additional games with the "Compatible..." notation as those titles are tested and documented as such.

Thanks again for your patience and understanding of this project.

Best wishes,
Bill

What about Jigsaw Puzzles? I own quite a collection I haven't worked yet. Sure would like to have Lion versions. Seems like if you fix the code for one the rest would be fast and easy.

Wedding Salon for Mac

Says "Compatible with OS X 10.7"

The account I'm logged into is an Administrator account.
However it refuses to start.
No log messages.
No messages if I try to start it from the command-line.
Won't start as "root" either.

I was a Gamehouse member a long time ago, when I owned a PC. After I bought my Mac I began to use another site to buy games, I don't know why.

Now that same site is driving me crazy only because they are silent about this issue with Lion.

So I decided to come back to this site because you show respect for your members when you point the games that are working, the ones that are not and give the members updates about how this issue is been handled.

That's all I wanted from that other site and they couldn't give me even that.

So, let me check some games because none of my old games is working right now, and I feel so bored

Good evening! I am trying to install Bejeweled 3 on OSX Lion. A fresh install. I upgraded after my old Mac crashed and was unable to migrate any programs over. I get an error message when I try to launch the app.

Cannot Install Required Resources. Your user account doesn't have sufficient access privileges. You will need to run this game once from an administrator account. Afterwards, you will be able to run it from this account.

That's the message I get. I am running this app from an admin account. I have two admin accounts set up on this Mac Mini and neither of them are successful in launching Bejeweled 3.

Any ideas on how to get past this error message?

I'm running a Mac Mini 2.3GHz i5, OS 10.7, 4GM RAM, 500GB HD, Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB graphics

HI,

You need to be logged in as root not just in an admin account. However, I did that with A Fairy Tale and then it would not accept my registration code so it may not work.

Our QA Team's in-house testing showed that the games they already had installed on a given Mac computer did launch and play normally after they upgraded that same Mac to OS X Lion. We believe that experience will be the same for our Mac customers; however there could be some factors at play, specific to one person's or another's system, that may cause a different experience.

Bill

None of my games worked after I upgraded to Mac OS X 10.7. Every one had a white circle with a line through it on the app icon. I re-bought Mah Jong Medley, thinking that it had been updated, but it won't launch. After putting in my registration info, nothing happens. I've talked on support chat and tried everything they said and it still won't work. Please advise.

Hello everyone,

Thank you for your replies over the past couple of weeks. I greatly appreciate your feedback on this topic and I'm glad to have the opportunity to address the points that you've raised since my last post:

Wanderin_Bill: Unfortunately 'one size fits all' does not apply to OS X 10.7 compatibility with a number of software programs. The Jigsaw Puzzle games for Mac remain a challenge and I'll try to get you more information from our Games Release Team. Stay tuned!

Jahadeem: We're puzzled by your experience because Wedding Salon for Mac has been verified by our QA Team as compatible with OS X 10.7. Although you wrote that you did not receive any log messages, were there no error messages displayed even briefly when you attempted to launch the game?

cavetter: The 'bits' for GameHouse Sudoku for Mac require Rosetta, a PowerPC emulator for Intel-based Macs. Since OS X 10.7 does not support Rosetta the game remains incompatible at this time. While our goal is OS X 10.7 compatibility for every Mac game the Rosetta/PowerPC issue is a definite challenge. We'll keep you posted on progress. I'll add that I love Lion too! I upgraded my iMac right away and I've been very pleased. (Love my trackpad too! It was 'bye-bye mouse.')

Daelin: My colleagues and I are grateful for your comments about our efforts. We want our Mac customers to have the best gaming experience possible and we take our mission seriously. Thank you for being kind enough to notice.

myerstlm: Thank you for posting about your experience with Bejeweled 3. It has definitely been verified as compatible with OS X 10.7; thus I'm wondering if the suggestion that Daylight posted has worked for you. If it has not helped, can you please try uninstalling and re-installing the game?

Daylight: I reviewed your comments with one of my colleagues on our Technical Team and we're thinking the issue is not Lion related. Have you tried re-downloading the game? I'm curious to know if that helps.

Patsybeau: We'll review your Support chat transcript and we'll follow up with you via email. We'll be in contact with you by end of day Monday.

Thanks again, everyone, for your support. We're very proud to have you as Mac customers playing at GameHouse. Have a great weekend!

Bill

What about Super Bounce Out?

The game details say "Compatible with OS X 10.7" so I JUST purchased and downloaded it. However it won't open with Lion. I'm feeling disappointed and kinda ripped off.

Please solve soon.

Hi stmanta, and welcome to the GameHouse Community Forums.

I appreciate your post but I'm a bit confused as the Game Details under Super Bounce Out for Mac do not list OS X 10.7 compatibility. In fact there is no compatibility feature note whatsoever and that is obviously an oversight on our part that we will correct.

I realize that the System Requirements note of "Mac OS X 10.2 or better" could suggest compatibility with OS X 10.7; however we purposely added the "Compatible with OS X 10.7" or "Not yet compatible with OS X 10.7" feature notes on our Mac game pages to set the correct expectations for our customers relative to Mac game compatibility with Lion.

Again, I regret that we missed the "Not yet compatible..." note for this game and we'll correct that as soon as possible. In the mean time I'm happy to accept the return of the game, as I do not have an estimate of whether or not this game will be OS X 10.7 compatible. I'll contact you via email to confirm.

Thanks again for posting and thank you for playing at GameHouse!

Best wishes,
Bill

I'm receiving the same error message that myerstim mentioned:

Cannot Install Required Resources. Your user account doesn't have sufficient access privileges. You will need to run this game once from an administrator account. Afterwards, you will be able to run it from this account

I redownloaded Cradle of Persia after purchasing a new iMac with OS Lion on it. I'm the only account listed on here, which has to be admin.

I'd like to redownload any other OS Lion games I've purchased but want to make sure I can play them first. Any help would be appreciated!!

Thanx!!

Hello Gamehouse!
As a 6 year mac(Tiger PPC) owner, just updated to a Lion mini, and a PC laptop -for mostly offline work and games, i won't repeat any of the PPc comments, but i am wondering, as i am a beta CAD Tester, so I do know a bit of crash reports, and terminal histories. Would any of this be advantageous to Gamehouse's team? When I get the Vid running on my tiger again, I will continue with the the earlier games. in the mean time, i will be re signing in on PC for those (purchases along with Online Via Lion!

Hi, I have an older iBook G4 that still works great but is reaching its end of upgradeability. Thus I am trying to turn this machine into a game station so my nieces and grandchildren can use it. The portability is still great when waiting at Dr. offices and road trips, and still being good for 4th grade book reports. It would be nice if even for a short time (6 months) that it would be possible to purchase older versions of the popular games rather than having to search each one to see if its still available. This might also be good since there seems to be some compatibility issues with the new system. Perhaps a list of not upgraded games that we could still download to make the shopping a bit easier. I will miss this old mac, it has been like an old Timex, and still goin.

Thanks

I see that a number of people have mentioned a problem with the fact that PowerPC (Rosetta) applications aren't supported. I downloaded Mah Jong Medley a few days ago and it won't open because of that. I just double checked to be sure that it did say it was compatible with Lion, 10.7, and it does. Well actually it's not if the Power PC thing is throwing a wrench in the works. I'm suffering withdrawals from not being able to play! Do you know if this will be fixed soon? Should I try to return the game or just wait it out for the fix?
Thanks!!

Thank you for your post. We're embarrassed to realize that Mah Jong Medley for Mac was incorrectly noted as being "Lion" compatible. It should have been noted as "Not yet compatible with OS X 10.7" and we're making that correction to the game's download page, which will be updated overnight.

I wish I had a time line for OS X 10.7 compatibility for this game (indeed for all games not yet compatible); however given the PowerPC (Rosetta) issue it is not likely to be soon.

Thanks again for alerting us to this correction.

Best wishes,
Bill

Hi Bill--

I still haven't upgraded to Lion on my MacBook Pro (although I have on my iMac), but I wanted to tell you how impressed I am with your responsiveness on this issue. In my anxiousness to use iCloud, I wanted to upgrade the laptop, but I knew the games might be an issue, and after reading this conversation, I'm really impressed by the attention to this issue (though I'm not ready to take the plunge on the laptop yet!).

Thanks for watching out for Mac users--I will continue to be a loyal customer!

I welcome you too, harfy, and I appreciate your comments. I confess to being puzzled, though, as GameHouse is not yet offering Rainbow Web 3 for Mac. Did you purchase it elsewhere? We're scheduled to offer the PC version of Rainbow Web 3 later this week, but as of today we don't have a time line for the Mac version to be offered.

In any event, about a week ago I upgraded my iMac at home to OS X 10.7.2 and I haven't had any issues playing any of my Mac games. Nonetheless, we'll test Rainbow Web 2 for Mac (the latest Mac version we have in the Rainbow Web series) on a Mac running OS X 10.7.2 to see how it fares. I'll report our findings here.

Thanks again for posting and for playing at GameHouse!

I have just moved to LION 10.7.2 so I can go on iCloud. I had no idea it would affect my games. I have Super Gamehouse Solitaire, 1,2 and 3 which are some of the most enjoyable solitaire games I've found anywhere, Shape Shifter and Bounce Out Blitz - all of which I got ages ago. Are they ever going to be able to work again or do I have to go searching for something different?

Hi everyone,

We appreciate your additional posts since our last update to this thread.

Many of the games mentioned under this topic are very old games; some were released more than 10 years ago. The older Mac games were developed for PowerPC Mac computers and, as many of our Mac customers know, OS X 10.7 is not compatible with PowerPC programs. Thus there is the distinct possibility that some of the older Mac games may never be compatible with OS X 10.7.

Nonetheless our Technical Team continues to work on this project and I hope to have more information for you toward the end of this month. Please stay tuned!

Thank you,
Bill

What about a new game that plays fine with OS 10.7 in both standard and collector's edition demos from Big Fish, but from GameHouse the premium edition demo launches but won't play? I refer to "Lost Souls: The Enchanted Paintings," which I've re-downloaded any number of times from GH, with the same luckless result.

I have the super jigsaws also downloaded "pre-Lion" and each came up with the Power PC message. When going through your catalog, some don't say if they are not compatible - so does that then mean that they are?? Don't want to presume. Also, if one that I have downloaded is now compatible, how do I get it to work? I love my jigsaws, and was in the middle of a great one when I did my download.

What are you dong for your PAID customers and loyal followers?

it seems to be nothing. they have our money and just don't care if their product no longer works on our computers. an earlier post said it all when they said that these were mostly old games and would probably never be compatible with lion.

Regarding the issue of OS X Lion compatibility with existing games that are already installed on computers before upgrading those machines to Lion, we will re-test the specific titles that are proving to be incompatible as some of you have reported in this thread and we'll call out anomalies as we document them.

So, I have a question that I am unsure has been answered or not in this thread as everyone seems to be complaining about Lion support, but when a game 'upgrades' to Lion compatible does that suddenly make it completely incompatible with anything older than that? Because I've been running into EVERY SINGLE game you can play with FunPass being uncompatible with my PPC mac computer even though it says '10.4 or greater' [or something to that effect]. I have 10.5, so in theory it should work -- but it DOESN'T.

Could you at least update each of those pages to say that they won't work on anything older? I've downloaded five different games and all of them have said they aren't supported by my architecture. IF you have older versions, could you please direct me to the right place to find them because there isn't anything at all on each of those pages.

Thanks in advance.

Because I've been running into EVERY SINGLE game you can play with FunPass being uncompatible with my PPC mac computer even though it says '10.4 or greater' [or something to that effect]. Hello bonnieinpixels -- Welcome to the GameHouse Community Forums!

Thank you for your post, which I've forwarded to our Games Release and Technical Teams for review. We'll follow up with you offline and I'll more information here on the subject as it is relevant to our Mac customers overall.

Meanwhile I appreciate your patience!

Hi. I recently purchased Hawaiian Island Vacation Quest. My grandson and I both enjoy playing it except for one thing. When it comes to the puzzles that require putting together pieces of pictures, we can't get the pieces to flip around to fit properly. Is there something I can do to fix this?

Thanks
