MM: Salem Witch Trials won't save progress

I loved this game but had the same problem with saving it. I had to play from the same scene about 4 times... I ended up staying up half the night finishing, and when I did it did not unlock the unlimited hidden object scenes. This was such a bummer!

Thanks wbeal, it's good to know GH are already onto it. I really hope there is a fix as it's such a good game, I can't wait to finish it! (In a good way ) And I'm looking forward to posting a review, but in fairness I think I'll have to wait until it's sorted out.

Keep us posted!

Have gone to other sites, Big Fish for one, and their game is doing the same thing. Really a shame, a very good game.

Hello again...

We really appreciate your feedback about this game, and we very much appreciate your continued patience while we work on a solution.

I'll post updates as I have information to share.

Thank you!

I just purchased Midnight Mysteries: Salem Witch Trials after playing the demo until it ran out. It's a brilliant game but since I purchased it, it won't save my progress, every time I launch the game it takes me back to where I was when the trial time finished. It doesn't remember my player identity either - every time it just says 'Welcome Player - click to change'; so I click, put in my name again, but next time I launch the game, it's not there, and I can only go back to that same point in the game again.

This is very frustrating, it's a fantastic game but I can't face keep playing the same bit over and over.
My sentiments exactly.I have done it numerous times.I had trouble with the morse code letter.I couldn't get the eagle.

Hello again...

I have just played through 20% of the game myself and I discovered that the game did save my progress, but with an unusual pattern of exiting the game.

With most games the player must create their profile by entering their name before beginning play. This game, however, prompts the player to enter their profile name just before exiting the game. I entered "William" and exited the game in normal fashion (by following the exit steps via the Menu) and, when I restarted the game about 15 minutes later, I was returned to exactly the same place where I had left off.

We believe that if the game is closed by using Windows Task Manager progress may not be saved. But we are still testing and, so far, our tests have demonstrated that game play is saved if the game is exited via the Menu and the player profile name is entered just before quitting the game.

Please give that a try and let us know your results.

Thank you for playing at GameHouse!

Bill

Huh? I entered my name on the way in the way every other game works. When I exited through the menu it did not ask me for a player name and did not save the game. I certainly did not use the task manager to quit the game.

Ok, I tried it the way you said. Started the game and played through the first room. Then I exited through the menu and it did not prompt me to save the game. Tried it again, but before exiting I created my character name and then exited. In neither case did it remember where I'd left off.

I'm sorry Bill, but I've already tried what you did and it just doesn't work. Although it takes you to where you left off the first time,

1) it will take you back to that first save-point EVERY TIME you play, even though you have progressed further. Try going back into your saved game, playing on a bit further, then exiting, and then going back again later - you'll see what I mean. None of your later progress will have been saved, it will just take you back to your FIRST save-point EVERY TIME. In other words, it saves your progress once, but only once!

2) if you check, you'll find it hasn't actually remembered your character, and it never will, even if you enter it every time before you quit.

Sorry to be pedantic, but you really have to go in and out of the game (playing on a bit before quitting) several times to see what the problem is. Btw, I have never used task manager to quit the game, and have entered my character on exiting every single time I've played!

Hi 'SilverSuki' -- many thanks for your reply! I really appreciate your careful attention to detail.

I actually had gone in and out of the game - three times, in fact - and my progress from the previous end point (not the first exit point) and my profile was saved every time. I'm unsure why my experience would differ from yours but we are continuing our testing to uncover the cause of the behavior that you and other customers have reported.

With so many computer system configurations possible the testing does take some time. Nonetheless we realize the importance of this issue and we're working hard to resolve it.

Thank you again for your patience and for your support! I'll keep everyone posted as I learn more from our Technical Team.

Hi Bill, sorry to nag if you have already tried that, I thought perhaps you hadn't got what I meant, I'm not always very good at explaining things! Anyway thanks for continuing to slug away at it on our behalf!

Has anyone who had this problem tried redownloading or reinstalling the game, and if so, did that help?

I had the same isssue of the game not saving my progress. After removing and re-installing the game several times, I did the following:
1. Installed the game
2. went to: C:\ProgramData\MumboJumbo\Midnight Mysteries Salem Witch Trials
3. deleted the profile.dat file
4. After the game's first screen of getting the "ink pen"
5. I went to the main menu and changed the user name from "player" to hplieb.
6. I played the game and it works!

I haved deleted several dat files and the game continues to save my
my progress. I am running Win Wista w/service pack 2
I hope this helps...

I've tried this several times with no success?!? Could it be because I'm running Win 7? I SO wish I could get to play long enough to search for the key

I went to the website for the game and one guy said he had to switch the game to play in compatability with windows xp for it to save. I just tried it and it didn't work Part of me wants to delete it and move on but I'm hooked and really want to finish the game. Unfortunately I'm pregnant and have a two year old so I can't stay up all night to play in one sitting like i used to be able to.

I can't even play Midnight Mysteries! Once I make a grab for the ink pen the game ends and I get an error message that says luau or something and so I deleted it. Hope this bug is fixed because it looks awesome.
When I tried to beta test it for mumbo jumbo a few months ago my anti virus said it had a trojan in it. Yeesh. No more beta testing for me except here.

Me too. I only got to the halfway point, but I don't see a reason to start over again until I can save what progress I make. I'm enjoying the game, but I'm not enjoying it enough to play the same scenes over and over and over again. :o)

This appears to have been my problem as well. The laptop I was trying to play it on was a Windows 7 system, the desktop is an XP system. After reading the above comment, I downloaded the game onto the desktop and didn't have any problems with it at all. Twice I played a bit and then exited the game completely. When I came back, it picked up right where I had left off.

Hmm, I'm using Vista, so I don't think it's a specifically Windows 7 issue.

Hello everyone,

An updated version of this game is now available. This update fixes the issue that prevented individual player progress from being saved upon exiting the game. Please see the new "sticky" topic I posted in this forum; it is titled "Updated Version of Midnight Mysteries - Salem Witch Trials Premium Edition available at GameHouse!" and that thread contains complete instructions for uninstalling the previous version of the game and obtaining the updated version.

We thank you all for your patience. We appreciate your business and your support.

I too have sent a Forum Message asking when a patch or fix will be provided to those who have the standard edition (in the game's forum) and weeks have gone by without any reply. I "purchased" the game a number of weeks ago and yet I still can't play it, unless I want to devote a day to playing the whole game thru till the end (because it doesn't save past my initial save). I am running Windows Vista.

I think that Gamehouse should strongly consider allowing people extra game tickets or to uninstall and credit their customers when it takes weeks to fix known problems. You receive payment for games provided quickly, the customer should receive similar response when what is purchased is defective.

Please let me know your thoughts and solutions.

I purchased the MM :Salem Witch Trials at our local Walmart, and it does not save past the first time I saved the game. I saw on other posts that they have added another version online is there anything I can do with my purchased game?

Posted on Tue Aug 24 17:41:18 PDT 2010

Hello Wireman00,

Thank you for posting at GameHouse. The game "Midnight Mysteries - Salem Witch Trials" had issues in the first place when it was launched. The game developers had modified the game and released a new version of the game which fixed all the issues for the game. When the new version of the game was released it was updated in the GameHouse server and it was suggested to all the GameHouse customers to reinstall the game from gamehouse.com. But since you purchased the CD version of the game from Walmart, it will not work because the CD contains the older version of the game.

The only way you can play this game is to get a new version of the Game CD for which you could contact Walmart to see if they can replace the game for you. We suggest you to purchase games from gamehouse.com in future so that we can give you support if in case of any such instances.

Best regards,

Jason

Um, I'm sorry JasonO but I am simply SHOCKED to read in your post
JasonO wrote:

as it has not been suggested to ANY Gamehouse customers that they should do this!!

THIS is the forum thread specifically for people who have a problem with the game, and no-one from GH has posted on here that the game is now fixed and we should simply reinstall!

Perhaps you would like to clarify your remark as, if it is true that the game is now fixed, I am frankly annoyed that no-one has bothered to let us know, and positively LIVID to have it posted that 'it was suggested to all the GameHouse customers to reinstall the game'! I hope you can point out where this happened?

Hi Suki,

Many thanks for your post. I'm sorry for the confusion surrounding this game's updated version. I believe that JasonO was referring to the Premium Edition, for which we did post instructions about downloading the update. You asked about the standard edition at that time and I explained that we would look into that and post information when available.

I'll follow up with the game's Producer and our Tech Team to see where that stands and will let you know here as soon as I know. I should have more info tomorrow.

Again I apologize for the confusion and I thank you for being so patient and staying in touch with us about the update to Midnight Mysteries - Salem Witch Trials.

Kind regards,

Bill

Dear W Beal (Bill),

Yes, please do get back to ALL of us on this issue. Realize that it now has been over 2 months waiting for a resolution for the Standard Version of Salem Witch Trials.

Gamehouse frequently asks what would improve their site.....Well, standing behind what you sell would be an excellent start. I don't think anyone should have to wait this long for a fix. I think a refund should have been offered a long time ago.

I do hope you can come back with some good news tomorrow, but I really have lost all confidence it that happening.

Sincerely,

Sapphiremoon624

It really is unfair that those who buy the Midnight Mysteries Premium Salem Witch Trials are penalized by not getting the update to correct the save progress problem. My wife bought a second one because she thought it was a bad CD.

You still made the profit from our purchases and supplied us with a worthless game because she cannot save her progress. You really ought to make it right by sending us a free updated and corrected CD.

Someone has to pay the price for your error, why does it have to be the customers? It is your responsibility to make it right.

Posted on Thu Nov 04 18:02:19 PDT 2010

Hi 'DBBB' -- thank you for your comments.

I'm wondering if perhaps the purchase you described was made under an account with an email address different from the one associated with your screen name, as I did not see a record of it.

I'll email you to learn more and get things sorted for you.

Thank you,

I purchased this game (CD) from a retail outlet 2 weeks ago and it won't save my progress. I have read the above comments and wonder when a patch will be provided to people such as myself who have purchased this game in good faith. We should not be expected to download the game (I expect with an additional cost) in order to use all functionality.

If those who have purchased the game in CD form can have a free full version download, that would be acceptable. If this is not an option, I would expect a patch be made available as a matter of priority. Also as a matter of customer support, this would seem a reasonable outcome.

You have identified the fault and corrected the download version and now you should be doing the same for the CD version.

Um, I'm confused, why should Gamehouse be responsible for a game you purchased elsewhere? It's the responsibility of the retailer you purchased it from (or maybe the developer if you want to go to them directly). I don't see what it's got to do with Gamehouse at all. In this thread GH staff are trying to help their own customers who have purchased the game through Gamehouse.

Acorn, if the retailer where you bought the CD won't help you, go to Mumbo Jumbo who made the game, and see if they will help you. Good luck. I quit this game because I couldn't find my way past Hawthorne's ghost, even with a walkthrough. But it looked good. Just took too many brain cells for me for a HO game.
