Downloaded the free game of the day yesterday, Natalie - Hillcrest. It's been a very buggy experience, with occasional game crashes whenever the advertisements try to load and partially or completely whited-out screens. Usually I get past the crash with a re-load, and the whited-out screens usually resolve themselves by minimizing and re-maximizing the game window. However, I am now at the highschool, trying to attain the bat from the display case. I click on the bat, and as the bat is being added to my inventory, the game craters and closes. Every time. I've tried completing tasks in different orders before getting the bat but the net result is always the same and I can't proceed further.
Pity. The other 'free' game I downloaded, "Alchemists Apprentice", was similarly buggy, though I did manage to limp through numerous reloads to actually finish.
Not sure if this bugginess is only symptomatic of the 'free' download versions, but it certainly makes me wary of paying for a similar experience.
Update - I tried installing the game on another computer with the hope of better performance. No luck. Despite the second system being of faster processor, more memory and a much better graphics card, the game crashes on the very first advertisement. Truly a pity.
reloaded directx and upgraded flash plugin, after which I was able to proceed in game. However, white screens and occasional crashes were still prevalent. Many crashes occurred in the bankers office. Somehow, I managed to cobble through the game.
The game itself was quite enjoyable, but the bugginess was very frustrating. I suspect the inserted ads are likely the problem. Too bad, as the many crashes sets a very strong impression.
