Well it goes without saying I am having the same issue at the same time as the rest of you and have tried many of the same fixes also. What puzzles me is that clearly some others have had success downloading and playing. This is not the first time I have run into this issue with GH listened to a quite convoluted explanation about it being my software issue only to get the game at another site with no problems.

I'm having the same problem! After being strung along since Thanksgiving (will it be released? will it not be released?), I have been anxiously waiting for today, and then it won't play. What a gyp. Good work GH.

Hello again...

Our engineers have been testing the game all day and they have reproduced the issue that you have reported -- where you enter your name and the game does not play.

Our testing has revealed a solution that worked on some of the test computers and, we believe, may work for some of you:

Running "Microsoft Update" (formerly known as "Windows Update") on some of our test machines allowed us to enter our player name and continue playing the game as expected.

NOTE: You must use Internet Explorer to run "Microsoft Update," which can be accessed at this URL:

http://www.update.microsoft.com/

Choosing the "Express" update installation option will ensure that you download and install all high-priority updates applicable to your Operating System.

Please remember that this fix worked on some of our test machines; it may not work for everyone but it's worth a try until a permanent solution is found. Plus it's a good idea to keep our computers up-to-date as a matter of course.

Meanwhile our engineers are working around the clock - literally - on a permanent solution and we will continue to post our progress in these forums.

Thank you for your continued patience and, most of all, for playing at GameHouse.

Bill

Tried Windows update but it says my computer is up to date, so I guess that is not a fix for me. Hopefully it gets fixed soon - I really wanted to play the game tonight

I was wondering for those who the game is working for what OS you have and if you are running IE7 or IE8. I have XP and am running IE7 and wonder if that is the problem. Just thinking out loud and frustrated because I want to play the game and I have tried the update and don't need anything updated.

I'm running XP with IE7 and everything worked perfectly for me when I played the demo... no issues, no problems, no crashes. I hope you find a solution soon. Good luck.

I was able to download and play the trial, but when I went to buy the game, I got a screen that said "Attention, we can not find the game you are looking for on our site." Has anyone else had this problem? Why would I be able to download and play the trial and then not buy the game?

It may be suspended temporarily due to the bug that was discovered after the release.

I have a fix!

I was having the same problem -- crashing right after I enter my name. I talked to a developer friend of mine and he helped me find a workaround. Here's what you need to do:

1. Go to http://drop.io/lostkingfix and download the lkgs0.dat file. (This is the file that saves your name in the Lost King.)

2. Open "My Computer" and go to:
C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name\Local Settings\Application Data\LostKing\
(For me the username was "user" because I only have one user on my machine.)
On Vista that would be C:\Users\Your Name\Appdata\Local\LostKing\

3. You should see a lkgs0.dat file already in that folder. Drop the file you downloaded into that folder and overwrite. What you're doing is replacing the broken file with a user file that already has a user in it, bypassing the glitch.

4. Restart the game. You should see a user named "Mortimer" already there. Go ahead and create a new user for yourself and play the game!

Apparently some people have been able to fix the problem by running Windows Update and updating their machine. I would try that first because it's an easy thing, and because it's good to get the latest updates, anyway. If it doesn't fix Mortimer, come back to the other solution.

Hopefully GH can release a fixed version on the site soon so we don't have to do this... In the meantime, try the fix and enjoy the game!

I downloaded this game from the Publisher, and at 1st I thought it was going to work, there were a couple of the objects in the 1st scene, but after that there were not, so it is the game itself. It is not our computers! This is the only game I have ever had a problem with, and I have downloded 100s of them here and at BigFish.

AmyR, you were right on the money. We were having the same problem until we downloaded IE8 and now the game is working. We are running Windows XP Home Edition with all updates from Microsoft except IE8. We upgraded to 8 and now the game plays fine.

Oh man that bites! I can't download IE8, I work from home, and I have programs that will not run with IE8 yet. Someday the insurance companies will get with the 21st century, until then, I guess this one is off limits to me.

First let me say that I think its ridiculous that I had to switch over to IE instead of my normal Firefox in order to post on this forum.
Second, I had the same problem as everyone else where my game crashed after I entered my name. I downloaded the update for IE, the game worked... yippee. Now, however, the game is crashing AGAIN in the 2nd chapter after I strike the match. Any fixes for this one?

I am able to enter my name but there are no items to find on the screen. It shows the items to find but none are on the screens. Is anyone else having this problem? I have dowloaded several times and it still does not work. I hate paying for nothing. As long as we had to wait for the game, it seems the problems would have been worked out. hope some one will post a solution to this problem.

This worked great for me! Kinda funny the fix comes from someone outside of Gamehouse.

Hi everyone,

I am pleased to report that the name entry issue with Mortimer Beckett and the Lost King Premium Edition has been fixed and the new version of the game is now available for purchase or re-download of a previously purchased version of this game. The new, fixed version is also available for play by our FunPass members.

To our customers who purchased Mortimer Beckett and the Lost King Premium Edition and who are experiencing the game shutting down when the player's name is entered:

1. Please uninstall the previously downloaded version.
2. Please re-download the game from the link in your My Games list and install this new version. You should be able to enter your name and play the game normally.

On behalf of the entire GameHouse team I thank you for your patience. I realize this has been a frustrating situation; thank you for for allowing us the opportunity to resolve it.

Kind regards,
Bill

I am able to enter my name, but as soon as I click play game, it closes out to my desktop. This is still happening after uninstalling and re downloading. Any suggestions? I can play the tutorial, but when I click to resume the game (yes, I was able to get in at one point) it closes out.

Since my last post, I tried to download on my laptop. Yipee it worked in the trial mode, so I purchased the game. Unfortunately I am unable to register it on my laptop. It tells me that it is unable to connect to the internet. I am becoming very frustrated, for some reason I can not even uninstall the program from my lap top. Is there anything I can do to fix these issues? I am not real computer literate but can follow directions. I have tried the fixes already suggested and have had no success.

Hello 'poohborg' ... Thank you for posting your comments and concerns. I'm very happy to know that you were able to purchase and download the game on your laptop, but I'm sorry to learn that you're having trouble registering the game. I recommend that you contact GameHouse Customer Support for assistance. You can get faster service by calling them toll-free on 1-866-831-5895 and they can walk you through some steps to help troubleshoot the problem and resolve it.

If you prefer, you are welcome to email them via support@gamehouse.com. Either way I know they will be glad to help you. Meanwhile I thank you for your patience and perseverance!
