I have read the reviews for this game on Big Fish forum and find I have the same problem. The Jewel Quest series seem to have many problems especially 3, 4 and this one. Only once have I been able to put my name in and then the big freeze. It seems that this is one of the major problems with the game. Has any one actually tested this game for ALL computers. It is a shame as I really like the Jewel Quest series but am unable to get them to work. I have a new video card, windows Xp and all other games I get I have no trouble with. There must be a problem with the programming or producing of these games, does any one know what they are. I am not the only one with this problem, many others have the same. Thanks for any help

Not only did I freeze from time to time, the computer actually blue-screened once. Too bad as I was enjoying this game and would have purchased if I had not encountered the problem.

I anyone reading these comments that might troubleshoot the programming?

I've had success with this game - love it, and the series. Did have a couple of problems with slowdowns, but once I increased my internet speed, the problem seemed to go away. The only problem i really encountered was at the very end - RATS - but I did finish the game. Would definitely look at playing again. The link for reviewing this game doesn't seem to work - most unfortunate -

I reviewed the game quite some time ago. They said it would take 72 hours to approve. Apparently they didn't like what I said so they chose not to include my 1 star review with the 3 older 5 star reviews. My review stated that it was an excercise in frustration what with the screen freeze, jerky curser, long wait times with loading and black screens. I also asked if there was any quality control at GameHouse before they released a game. If this game had been tested I'm sure it wouldn't have been released with all the glitches. Apparently 5 star reviews sell games and 1 star reviews might make people think twice so they won't approve them. Oh well.

It would be a fun game if allowed to play properly.

In the future I will be reading the forums rather than counting on the reviews which are obviously not the total truth.

When this happens to my wife, I can ssh to my Mac Pro from another system (my iPhone!) and kill the Jewel Quest process. I was also able to get a backtrace for the program when it is in this state using gdb:

#0 0x96626142 in semaphore_wait_signal_trap ()
#1 0x9662bc46 in pthread_mutex_lock ()
#2 0x8f0e67bb in gldUnbindPipelineProgram ()
#3 0x1108b42c in gleDestroyStateProgram ()
...

#54 0x97096323 in AEProcessAppleEvent ()
#55 0x955a59ca in _DPSNextEvent ()
#56 0x955a4fce in -[NSApplication nextEventMatchingMask:untilDate:inMode:dequeue:] ()
#57 0x95567247 in -[NSApplication run] ()
#58 0x9555f2d9 in NSApplicationMain ()
#59 0x000df600 in main ()

I sent this to the GH folks, but they did not go off-script. If anyone can suggest any other info gathering methods or debugging tips, let me know!

Ignore the stupid smileys that replace the :\D's in the above text.
