I am stuck at the Saloon, can't go anywhere except Charlotte's room, which tells me to seach for inventory items in another location and sends me back to the saloon. Help! email me so I can keep playing skyredpath@aol.com

Use the rope ladder to get up and thru the window. At some point you will go back to the town square (foundry?) Looks like a well. In that part, you will find the scissors. Then back up the rope ladder and use the scissors to cut open the pillow on the chair.
