I am very fond of most Playrix Match 3 games (think The Path of Hercules and Call of Atlantis), most of which I have purchased. But this one did not live up to its predecessors, at least in my mind. The match 3 play itself was similar, with the same powerups as in the past. But there was a new twist added--sand. If you didn't make a match next to the sand, it would grow by one square. If you did match next to the sand, it would shrink or go away altogether, unless you had a sandstorm, which could not be eliminated. I found it more of a nuisance and an irritant than anything else. Also, while the artifacts you restored were basically the same, there was no hidden object play at the end of each section where you had to find all the pieces before they were delivered to their final destination. I missed that step, as I really enjoyed it. Also, the background scenery was not as lush as in the previous games. It seemed to me like they were anxious to get a new game on the market so neglected the things that made the others so much fun. Also, the other games had stunning screen savers as a reward for finishing each section. Here there is only wallpaper, and it's not so stunning. There is an addtional feature to this game that I liked. Once you have mastered the first two sections, you can go back and play each game in challenge mode, where you must complete the game either in a limited number of moves or with a limited amount of time. If you do so, you earn a star. Some of these challenges were not easy. Another difference: you are able to play the whole game in relaxed mode (no timer), and you don't lose a life when you lose a level; you just replay it. All in all, there are some good additions, but for me they don't outweigh the lack of other things that made these match 3s so good.
