Great graphics, awesome super weapons! regret the game doesn't allow more than one user name; that it doesn't store promotions so you can track your progress; and that it doesn't show ratio of ships sunk to ships lost; music gets redundant (do I hear Toy Defense music when promoted?). Weapons selection is somewhat intuitive, but a tutorial would have helped. I compare this game to Pearl Harbor game. Very good but could be better! General Quarters! Dive! Dive Dive! Torpedos Away!

EA/ PopCap did a great job giving me a great 'old time' game, all dressed up with extras, when doing deeper game modes, the basic will seem slow, great graphics and animations.

If you liked this game in the old days of either peg boards or the basic computer version, you will love this realistic digital version. You can play the standard fire one and wait for your opponent to fire, or unleash a full salvo, reduced by one missile for each ship you lose. You can also play a supposedly very sophisticated game involving aircraft, helicopters, torpedoes, etc. I say supposedly because I could not get this style of play to work; it froze every time I tried. But it looked like that style of play would exponentially enhance the fun. I only wish I could have tried it. Even without that, if you like battleship(r), you will love this version.

I played this game as a kid and after playing this version, I've decided that the game is much more fun when there are humans involved. I miss the threats, the "Ah, gotchas" and other war game related banter. The graphics are good and it is fun's kinda dull. It's amazing how many times I watched my shots go boom, splash into the rolling sea. Believe me, that can get pretty danged monotonous after the 50th boom, splash. Hitting a ship was a thrill because it broke up the boredom. My other gripe is that there are no levels. It appears that you advance in rank but, you're still shooting the same five ships and still "boom, splashing". After you've sunk your 20th battleship(r) you suddenly wonder, "is that all there is"? I figure, if I can't get addicted to a game in an hour, why bother. Maybe the makers of the game shouldn't have been so stuck on keeping the game exactly as it was but, instead, thought of making it a bit like Toy Defense - then I would have become an addict!

I really enjoy playing this game. There are 3 different modes in the game. 'Classic'- just like the old game that you would play with a friend, with the pegs, shoots one shot at a time, back and forth. Then you have 'Salvo' mode. Which is when you can pick, at first, 5 shots anywhere on the board, and then let the missles fly! If you hit a boat, then you keep shooting 5 shots at a time. The more you miss though, your shots go down to 4, then 3 and so on till 1 shot. It's pretty cool. But I really like to play the 3rd mode which is called 'Super Weapons'! Really cool mode. You can pick a fighter jet to shoot missles, 3 squares apart, (every other square, up to 3 hits), or send a Frag Bomb, that shoots in an area of 5 squares, looks like the 5 on a dice, or you could send a Sea Mine, that will literally go square to square till it hits the enemies boat, you also still get to shoot your missle at the same time. I like that one. There's a helicopter that has a Chain Gun that shoots 5 squares in a row. A Cherry Bomb, shoots 5 squares also, but in a cross formation. There are other things too, like a Torpedo from a submarine that shoots the entire row of squares, but make sure you don't have a boat in that same line because it will give you away, (only downside). There's a decoy ship also. I can't mention them all, this review would be way to long. It's fun though, the graphics are cool too. When you hit a boat, it shows it on fire and blowing up, also shows it sink into some serious waves.
