This game was a lot of fun with a good story line and graphics. It was probably the most challenging HO game I've played. I used the hint button more than I want to admit and even when I did use it, it wasn't a quick answer. I don't know if it was me but some of the letters were missing on the narrative. I could still understand but I think the developers need to avoid this in any future versions. Overall a fun game to play.
If you've never played these games, start with Escape From Pompeii. It is much easier and gives you a feel for how the concept works before you try to tackle In the Quest of Fate. Escape From Pompeii is very short (2-3 hours) and there is no easy way to save the game. (There were some recommendations in the Forum, but I didn't try them out.) It is still enjoyable and worth the effort. In the Quest of Fate is much more complicated and I had to use a lot of hints. I even had to consult a walk through at one point in the game. All in all it was a good bundle pack and I'm ready to play it again.
Both of these games were a pleasant surprise for me, I'd never heard of them, and thought because they were bundled together they must be a bit...well... I couldn't have been more wrong, they were both excellent quality and great fun to play. There are HO scenes, but they're both more the problem-solving adventure type of game really. The graphics were excellent, and the problem-solving so brain-busting I actually had to use hints on more than one occasion (can't remember the last game I used a hint on!), and I found the hints system logical and truly helpful, without going so far as too simply 'tell' you what to do. Both games were long and kept me busy for ages. Even played perfectly smoothly on my laptop, which sometimes struggles with 'busy' animated graphics. Great value, definately a bundle to add to your collection if you like adventure IHOGs. Can't think of any criticisms really (astonishing!)
I had played both versions a while ago, but thought it would be fun to replay and I was right. I started with Escape From Pompeii and thoroughly enjoyed playing this again. Game in general was fairly easy until you got to finding the differences. This was very difficult. Gotta love the hint button which recharges very fast (thank goodness). Even with the hint, differences were very difficult to find. Game was short but fun. Then I decided to replay Quest of Fate. It brought me exactly to the spot where I was stumped the first time I played it. No matter how many times I checked the painting for the right colors, it didn't work. So I never got to finish this game. Maybe it was a glitch, I don't know. Anyway, I highly recommend playing these. Enjoy.
